I've deserted.

or Northstar engines, Cadillac's poor 4.6 copy of Ford's 4.6 Aluminator... lol

I remember when they first started talking about the Holy Romeo 4.6 Litre engine. It was around the same time as the SN95 development. It was dipped to have 460HP Supercharged. We waited and waited. Finally they delivered that Cobra Mustang that was supposed to have some 320HP but didn't and Ford was brought to task by that guy with the Blue Oval News website. I don't remember all the particulars but I think they wound up settling out of court or something and the website changed hands.

yeah they released the original 4.6DOHC/aluminator in the Mark VIII for a couple of years while they gave the 302 a little longer to power the mustang, and then the new 4.6 SOHC. then after a while they dropped a new cobra with the DOHC version from the Mark with a few small changes. the 96-98 aluminators were only supposed to have 305hp when they updated the SN95 with the "New Edge" styling in 99 they made a few more tweaks to get another 15 HP out of it to get it up to 320, turns out they didn't quite hit their rated HP numbers so they recalled all of the 99's and threw a new intake, full exhaust, and a new tune to get it where they said it was. for 2000 they had the Cobra R with the 5.4. then in 01 they released the same (updated version) that was the 99, there were no 02 made (outside of a small handful made for australia) they took 02 off so they could go back and hit the drawing board hard and decided to just build the bottom end as strong as a rock and then finally throw the blower on it, now that was a thing of beauty, the Terminator is still one of my favorite engines ford has build to date!

... I prefer to sweep MPG and stock HP numbers under the carpet and keep my rose colored glasses on until I can replace it with something else that will satisfy me as much... a very tough thing to do for the same price range my LS was in (V8 RWD 3 years old certified $18K)

Sorry I'm a little slow on the uptake here (I'm kind of into Jag stuff), but I did want to comment to 02LincLS.
Price of my new Jag was a hurdle I had to overcome. I paid 130% more for this "service loaner" than for my "factory demo" LS 10 years ago. I had to join that luxury segment that's been running through this thread and that took some talking to myself. Looking at the LS from Ford's marketing and design standpoint, I'd say they did a fine job of building a competitive sport touring machine for production sedan price. Perfect? No. But a good buy? Absolutely. My problem was I couldn't find a replacement in today's market. The price range is Chrysler and Dodge but road worthiness is Jaguar and BMW. So what's in my garage now is not "transportation", its part of my estate.

I need another 5 years in my 01V6LS. It will then be an antique, I will have owned the car 20 years! That's only about 100,000 more miles to go!

When your time is finally up, I encourage you to consider a Jaguar. I'm pretty happy with my XF. Its pricier than the Lincoln, BUT... Its quieter on the road, even with a sunroof which my LS didn't have. It handles better - flatter in the twisties and far less squirrely in crosswinds above 90. Its significantly faster. Factory specs 0-60 at 5.7, but its real strength is passing on the highway, that's where the superchargers shine. And it gets better gas mileage. My last tank, some town / mostly highway, ran 27.7. Even on long interstate trips my LS ran closer to 25.5. I've already told you it ranks higher in J.D. Powers than the current Lincolns.

The only miss so far is the seats. The side bolsters work better keeping you in place, but the seat itself in harder and less comfortable.

This is a nice car and I'm not unhappy about the premium price. It has lots of niceties and the base car underneath is best described as "refined". They even manage the sequential (motorcycle) transmission better than Cadillac, downshifting sooner to avoid the shifting delay when you get back on it. It really is worth a look.
