I WILL give Obama kudos for cancelling the Keystone pipeline.

All that was going to do... was make it easier for China to get access to oil they owned in Canada, down to the port in Louisiana.

Instead... China had to pipe it to Canada's West Coast and go through the Bering Straights.

Doesn't matter much now... since China is buying up a majority of oil refineries in this country.

Threats to US federal judges double since 2021, driven by politics

WASHINGTON, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Serious threats to U.S. federal judges have more than doubled over the past three years, part of a growing wave of politically driven violence, according to U.S. Marshals Service data reviewed by Reuters.

The agency, responsible for the protection of 2,700 federal judges and more than 30,000 federal prosecutors and other court personnel, has seen a sharp rise in threats related to the country’s bitter political divisions, Marshals Director Ronald Davis told Reuters in a recent interview.

Serious threats against federal judges – ones that trigger an investigation by the agency – rose to 457 in fiscal year 2023, which ended on Sept. 30, from 224 in fiscal 2021, according to the previously unreported data. Serious threats against federal prosecutors also more than doubled, from 68 in 2021 to 155 in 2023, the statistics show.

The spike spans a period that began around the time of the 2020 presidential election, when federal courts heard a series of highly politicized cases, including failed lawsuits filed by former President Donald Trump and his backers seeking to overturn his loss. Over the same timeframe, election officials saw a barrage of threats from Trump’s supporters, as previously documented by Reuters.

Judges and prosecutors involved in the criminal and civil prosecutions of Trump have reported hundreds of threatening messages linked to those cases, according to court records and public statements by the targeted officials. Court officials also have reported threats from activists enraged by the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn the legal right to abortion.

Davis said the agency has a “growing concern” about a rising tide of threats fueled by partisan divisions and vitriol on social media.

The 457 serious threats against judges in 2023 marked a dramatic increase from 2019, when the Marshals investigated 179 such threats, according to the data.

During his presidency and in the years since, Trump has shown a willingness to criticize judges who rule against his interests in highly personalized terms, often suggesting their decisions are politically motivated.

A Trump spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, in remarks at the Justice Department on Jan. 5, expressed alarm at “a deeply disturbing spike” in threats against public officials, saying prosecutors have filed charges in cases involving federal judges, presidential candidates, members of Congress, the military and election workers.

The attorney general warned the incidents threatened “the fabric of our democracy.”

The threats come amid the most sustained spate of political violence in the United States since the 1970s, according to a Reuters investigation last year. That reporting documented at least 232 politically motivated acts of violence since Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Those attacks included everything from riots and brawls at political demonstrations to politically motivated beatings and killings.

Average American salary is $59.4K a year, average Russian salary is $14.7k, in USD.

Tucker should deport himself and family to Russia and renounce his American citizenship, all these Rightist should. Go be happy.

A California man with a history of political violence was sentenced on Friday to 20 years in prison for repeatedly attacking police with flagpoles and other makeshift weapons during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

David Nicholas Dempsey’s sentence is among the longest among hundreds of Capitol riot prosecutions. Prosecutors described him as one of the most violent members of the mob of Donald Trump supporters that attacked the Capitol as lawmakers met to certify Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential election victory.

Dempsey, who is from Van Nuys, stomped on police officers’ heads. He swung poles at officers defending a tunnel, struck an officer in the head with a metal crutch and attacked police with pepper spray and broken pieces of furniture, prosecutors said. -snip

It was not the FBI, it was not Black Lives Matter or Antifa, not the Left in any shape or form that did this. It was Rightwing domestic terrorist spurned on by Trump, his allies and assisted by the Rightwing media who peddled Trump’s obvious lies for weeks after he lost. Period. Trump supporters who believe winning by any means is justified for them, like Trump does.

Despite the endless blame-shifting, sugarcoating and/or dismissals the Right does over the Jan 6th insurrection and attempted coup, these savages and thugs assaulted police officers, vandalized our Capital, some smeared their feces along the walls, some looted the offices. This was a horrific day and a direct threat to our democracy, people died.

Obviously not every Trumper was physically present at the Jan 6th insurrection, but nigh every Trumper was there in mind, heart and spirit. If Trump and his violent mob had been successful, they’d all have cheered.

Jan. 6 was the biggest scam the DemoCRAPS pulled on America. The ONLY death from Jan. 6 was an unarmed WOMAN, Ashley Babbit, who was shot by a worthless Capitol officer. There were sooooo many FBI antagonizers that tried to cause an uprising. If you care to try to remember, the initial video showed the Capitol police VOLUNTARILY removing barricade's & directly people into the capitol building, which has now been deleted/erased. Amazing how Nancy Pelosi just happened to have a film crew with her that day to tape the "horrifying" scenes. Oh, & it was Nancy's daughter that was doing the documentary. Hmmmmmmm.........

1) Ashley Babbit was armed with a pick, what she used to break through the reinforced glass window. She was giving warning, after warning, after warning to stop.
2) The FBI did not set off January 6th, it was Trump and his fellow instigators who set the stage and lit the fuse since losing in November on 2020.
3) Some police did remove barricades, these were likely pro-Trump officers, or officers who feared being attacked by the Trumper mob. Police officers who did so are under investigation.
4) Nancy Pelosi did not have a "film crew". All the cell phones, news cameras and security cameras provide the video details.
