Jobs...

I'm a US Marine, so I kill people, when they let me.

Theirs something to be proud of. I just run around and kill people. I think alot of serial killers did that also. But no one told them when they could or couldn't kill people. So I guess serial killer is one step above marine. When I lived at fort hood for 2 1/2 years my roommate was special forces. Never once did he ever brag about killing anyone. Point being, if you really do just kill people and brag about it you sir have some serious mental problems.

Nuff said about that. Being a marine is a honorable job. They do get sent into alot of stuff the other branches don't get sent into. I steped down from protecting my country in 01 so I could make more money, but it was the best job of my life.
Keep training them marines to stay alive.

I am a Soldier, the Army is all I know. Like Chad said "job security." I am Combat Medic, but currently I am working as the Operations NCOIC, I must have kissed the right a ss. I have been on 3.5 deployments, three Iraq, and just finished 6 months in Afghanistan, I love this job and it will probably do it until they kick me out or get killed.

I doubt he meant "running around, killing people" Its just what you tell yourself to get the job done, and there is no Special forces unit out of Hood, was you roommate Spec Ops?

And you get a huge pat on the back! Seriously! I wish more Teachers actually cared today and stopped complaining about being under paid. IMO those are the ones that are the cause of the failure of the American youth. The ones that go on strike every year.

Marines? I dont know how secure a job is when you have a great chance of being blown up in some other country cause the government refuses to supply you with armored vehicles.

Yup, thats security?

In 01 when I left their was special forces thier. Attached to 1st cav. It was their recruiting post to get people into selection. I did PT everymorning with them for a year. Except for the ramdom times i would go to PT and no one was their, then my roomy would be gone for 2 weeks to a month at a time.

Ok, I was just confused, I swear everybody that I meet say they used to be Special Forces,

I was never special forces, I did PT and lived with them. Backed out of going to selection.

Whats that? Marines said their taking fire from where? Tell them to paint it, copperheads incoming. LOL, in the end it's all a team effort.

Personally I didn't go into teaching for money and I knew when I started that money wasn't going to be an issue. Just get's tiring hearing every problem of America blamed on Teachers. Try teaching kids who really don't care to be in school and have parents who don't care that they have kids. A winning combination....

There are some teachers that do just suck and do nothing but complain. I was in one of those school districts that did nothing but strike. I went from one school district that cared and did great in school to another that didnt and almost immediately it showed on my report cards.

I would love to sub and pay back for the teachers that helped me but I know I just aint got what it takes.:shifty:

Just like everyone else....unemployed according to the IRS, but really I'm a "Professional Job Seeker/Individual Employment Specialist"

...sucks! Been thinking about the joining SF though for the past month though.

Hey man, as long as you want to pay back others who helped you, then you've already got what it takes.

Maybe you dont like the way I phrased it, but it all boils down to one simple fact. Marines are here to kill the enemy, and were damn good at it.

Let me quote GySgt Hartman from Full Metal Jacket. "God has a hard on for Marines because they kill everything they see."

I wasnt "bragging" about it. Only idiots and people who have never done it brag about it. You have to treat it like its not a big deal for it to not be a big deal. Learned that in my post deployment classes that help you deal with the things you were forced to do to carry out the mission. Also, you have to talk about it, which is what I was doing. Keeping it all bottled up inside isnt good.

Serial killers are the scum of the earth. To say they are 1 step above the Marines is :q:q:q:qing wrong and actually pisses me off. They kill people because they are :q:q:q:qed up in the head. We do it because its what our country needs us to do to keep the people of this country safe. You owe me a :q:q:q:qing apology for the stupid @ss comment.

I can see that by me saying "when they let me" seems a little wierd. I can see how that might be misconstrued by someone and make them think that I am some kind of psychopath that just wants to kill everyone I run into. It couldnt be more opposite. There is a gentleman here on the forum that was very considerate and respectfully opened my eyes to how it may sound to some of you out there.

Look at it this way. Say your a football player, but you practice for years and years before there is finally a game to play. After the game starts, you know that at some point in time, the coach is gonna send you in. This is the moment you have spent years training for. And if your the quarterback and get to lead the team, its even all that much more important to perform to the best of your abilities.

I'm not a psycho, I have never worked with a Marine who was psycho. We simply have a job to do that isnt the easiest in the world, and we find ways to deal with it.

Personally, I dont sugar coat things. I tell it how it is, and sometimes I shouldnt. I suppose this was one of those times.

Ground_zero, I apologize for the foul language if it offended you, that was not my intent. My intent was merely to tell you I was offended. As Marines we have a job to do, and all to often that includes violence. But we are not psycho's, were just doing what we have practiced and trained to do for numerous years.

I deliver bread.

Basically I love my job. But its not just a job, its a way of life. You join the Army, or the Air Force, or the Navy... but you become a Marine. There is a big difference.

hey man im confused by that statement, Don't you become a soldier when you join the Army, or a sailor in the navy? as in a marine when you join the marines? I'm not sure about the air force though, have a friend who is getting trained as an air force pilot.

I work for Norfolk Southern as a conductor. I stay in the yard and play with remote control locomotives. I move frieght around with a remote control loco and get it ready for the outbound trains to leave the yard. 40-60 hrs a week. Right now 40. They cut OT now because they are real slow. Been there 4 yrs in march. Prolly within the next year ill be running the trains from harrisburg to philly and jersey and anything east and south of harrisburg.

Its hard to explain the transformation that takes place when you become a Marine. At recruit training (boot camp) they basically break you down and rebuild you into what you should be. From that point on you are held to a higher standard, because you have earned the title Marine. I did a quick google on "what it means to be a Marine" and these were a couple good examples I found.

This one is GREAT!! http://www.jarheads.org/

Cant watch this one with out tearing up:
YouTube - The Few. The Proud. The Marines.

Becoming a Marine is the most important thing I have ever done in my life. Before that, I was on a path to destruction. Drugs and alcohol overwhelmed my life and the Corps saved it. I owe everything I have to the Corps, so every day of my life I give the Corps and its Marines everything I can. This is nothing new, its been happening for 233+ years.

Here is an example of the bond Marines share. Its a true story that specifically involved me. Just one example of the many instances I have encountered in my 11 years of service.
