I finally got around to painting over the chrome. I also had to paint the top of the rear bumper because the sun took away almost all the paint there. Looks way better now i think.
Wow that does look better. Never understood the love for the chrome on there. If I had gotten an LS with that, that would be the first thing to be painted!
+1
did you use a rubbing compound or polish?
both...they both work wonders. I painted the part where you see the Lincoln emblem's reflection-all thanks to those two products.
I need to repaint the rear surround. Its no where near as shiny as everything else. (i painted it 4 months ago and half a$$ed it)
Should have wet sanded before the clear coat. Im in the process of doing my rear surround now.
Im just filling the tub and sanding it in there ( which of course you cant ). Turned out f*cking nice till I grabbed the wrong paper without looking. I had to just do another shot of color and wait a few hours till I do more wet sanding.
looks good, what did you use to adhere to the chrome?
I got a etching primer thats strong enough to etch onto glass. Still dont know what its called, when I picked up my color yesterday I forgot to ask.
Paint that center on that grille with some flat black and it would accent the rest nice!
Compounding wont fix that as much as wet sanding would. Its like orange peel almost.
I wet sanded the primer, the base coat, and I will be wet sanding the clear also. Its really important to wet sand the primer if you want a really smooth virtually orange peel free base coat in the end. It helps the base coat go on smoother.
Just a tip.
Good luck!
Yeah but what you see is from not sanding the primer smooth enough. Compounding the base wont do anything much for it. Primer is coarse and needs to be smoothed down or you will need to wet sand the base coat a lot more which could result in wearing down the layer of base coat.
