In the past few months I have noticed that my keyless entry keypad has been acting up randomly..if I start the car to move it and shut it off right away and lock it..come back later and try to use the keypad to unlock the door or open the trunk it does nothing, no function what so ever, doesn't even turn the interior lights on like it should. However once I open the door with the key, start the car and shut it off, lock it and close door, then the keypad will start working again. Seems like it is doing this more frequently now..once every few weeks or so. Since its getting cold now I like to be able to start my car in the mornings to warm it up and lock the door with the key in it so I can walk away w/o worrying about someone hopping in and stealing it..don't want the keypad to malfunction and lock me out with it running..this would be bad. Has anyone else had this problem? Or know whats going on? It doesn't seem like its the keypad itself..makes me think there's something going on with whatever controls the keypad since it will work just fine after starting the car again.

Btw I searched LVC and Google and didn't find any threads mentioning this issue

ive got the same issue kev. ive been looking for a while for a fix. i saw a faq about what it could be. when i get back to my home pc ill look it up for you. but it appears that its with one of the door sensors either needs to be replaced or extended out fully. by the way i dont think it will fail if you have the key in the car and running. but im not 100 percent on that.

I pretty much figured this out right after I posted this..I went back out to see if it worked about 30 minutes later and once again the keypad wasnt working..I opened the door with the key and noticed the interior lights weren't illuminated and as I stood there pondering what was going on all of a sudden about 3 seconds later the interior lights came on as well as the tiny light around the keyhole lit up..so I tried the keypad and it worked..suddenly this made me think of the door ajar switch. I had problems last winter with it sticking, having to use pb blaster to free it up. So I assume this is the problem again. I'll be pulling the door panels soon when I get my new ones in the mail, so I'll have to address that stupid switch when the time comes..till then I guess ill have to use the key, oh well.

I had the random problem too but ever since I put in the new Motorcraft door jamb switches, it has been working every time since. Not sure if it was related or not but it must have been. Sometimes my interior lights would just come on randomly too. Ordered from rockauto and it's a 3 to 5 min fix or less if you have the socket ready to go. My passengers side was good but I went ahead and bought a new one for that side too just so I would know for sure that both were new.

If you can read that socket, that's the size you need. I can't remember if the drivers side had 3 prong connections but the passengers side did. Anyway, it's about $8.50 or so to the door for each switch. Less if both are bought at the same time, I would imagine. It's not like they don't have room in the box to add another switch. This is the box that the switch came in. Not once but twice!

sounds like we are talking about 3 different switches here. maybe we should just replace them all. unless the door handle switch is the same as the one that gives the door ajar error. in which case i dont wanna change it i just wanna keep spraying it with wd40 and lithum greese :)

Oh, I thought the "door switch" (the one you sent a link for) and the "door ajar switch" were the same thing..

nah.
"door ajar" is caused by something in the door latch.
the interior lights and such are controlled by that plunger switch.
