I tried cleaning my keyless entry remote and now it doesn't work.. I thought maybe it erased the programming so I did the steps that they say to reprogram it... putting in the factory code holding down 1/2 for a couple seconds... the thing is after I put the code in and held 1/2 down.. the doors didn't lock and unlock like it's suppose to to confirm the erasing...

I'm not sure if this is the factory code since it was programmed and the previous owner just told me it... so maybe there's another somewhere...

are the remotes expensive?... do you think it would be just as cost effective to install a different car alarm?... if so have you guys ever installed one on your own? was it difficult?... thanks again!! and again.. and again :D

The factory code, which can never be erased, is found in your trunk. It's located either on the deck lid support and/or next to the Air Suspension switch. I'm a little confused though. What are you trying to program - the keypad, or the remote? What year is your car? In any case, all the info you should need is linked to below:

Reprogramming the keypad (all years - also includes factory code location): http://www.markviii.org/LOD2/keyless_entry.htm

Reprogramming a 1st Gen ('93-'96) Remote: http://www.markviii.org/LOD2/remote93_96.htm

Reprogramming a 2nd Gen ('97-'98) Remote: http://www.markviii.org/LOD2/remote97_98.htm

It's a 97' and the remote... I followed those instructions but I'm gonna look and see if I can find the factory code... thanks

Ok, you can't reprogram the key fob..., there's a plug in the glove box you have to short to accept your code. There's a how to somewhere around here. ;)

Just a moment please. To end all of the controversy, do the following:
1 Remove the drivers inner door panel.
2 The permanent keypad code is in plain sight on the drivers door module
which is way up top and forward.
3 Go ahead and program the keypad as showm in the owners manual.
Then, if you need to reprogram the keyfob remote, do that as per the shop manual.
Dont confuse the two. Also, the 97/98 keyfobs program differently than the gen 1 cars.

Well I found the factory code... it's the one I'm using... but it doesn't do what it says... I put it in and hold 1/2 and it doesn't unlock lock to confirm... so that's lame... i think I might just give up and get an aftermarket alarm... bonus with that is I get to annoy everyone in my apt building just like they annoy me with them damn things :D
