Ford only recommends 91+ octane not requires it. If I was racing I might use 91+ but your car has knock sensors and a computer to adjust to most any reasonable octane.

and this is just inaccurate. has everyone read the posts from the Ford techs stating clearly that they DID NOT BUILD ENOUGH RETARD INTO THE SYSTEM. Maybe my 03 is different but the fuel door on the inside says "91+" not "recommended". It also says "unleaded". I suppose this is just a recommendation too?

Well, Ive been running diesel in my LS lately because you get better gas mileage out of the car. Im up to 60mpg now, the car got used to the different fuel, pretty amazing!!

I also have a timeshare on Mars if anyone is interested. :N

hmmmm.... let's see... based on these ridiculous comments, you are saying one of 2 things. Either you think i'm lying about my car running on 87 or that it simply shouldn't be running right now. Interesting perspective. :bash:

As for the rest ... i apologize, but I am new here, like i said... can someone point out the Lincoln engineers in the group for my future reference? (and, no offense, but we're all sure they really work for lincoln/ford, right? i've been on too many other boards in my time to believe everything i read).

Without coming across ignorant, if $75.00 a year is a problem, you bought the wrong car.

You are quite right! You cannot believe everything that so called "experts" say. I only trust what I observe myself. I even experiment to verify. I have no reason to question your veracity about running well on 87 octane. My car runs perfectly on 89 even during the hottest weather and hard driving. It probably would also on 87 but I have never tried 87.

I have never commented on using less than 91+ octane to be a smartalec or because I have anything to gain from it. I have done so for the person who mistakenly puts in 87 octane and is scared to death that his engine will blow up. As far as I am concerned everyone should use what they wish without having to apologize to anyone.

just messin around guys. I tried to run 87 in my car too and it pinged like hell, this was in stock form. Now I run 93-94 and it pings with all the advanced timing I have set. I need more octane myself!!!

I also owned the 02 LS V6 a few years back and driving very lightly with 89 it pinged like crazy too. I think the 03+ have better control over timing so running 87 may not be as bad for them.

woops, not calling anyone a liar or trying to be a smart alec. just passing on advice that has been covered on this board many times.....

well my car has a little ping to it but not a lot just every now and then that whats due with a 10 year old car i agues but when i run 87 ones just to test it out man that thing suffered no power i put foot on gas i didnt think i was moving LOL it just sate there LMAO
