Knocking and Squeaking

ok. used, v6 seems to be more expensive than v8 for some reason. also, i interchange data is very hard to find. I can tell you the major changes came in 03. switching 02 for 01 may work....and it may not. when I bought my tranny for my 03 the guy wanted to sell me a 06 tranny/engine combo for $1200 (no :q:q:q:q). problem is nobody could tell me if it would work or not. best of luck to you.

Call a salvage yard and have them look up the interchange for you in their Hollander (sp). Best interchange in the world.

I was afraid of this. It really did sound like a lower end knock to me by the way you described it. That's why I asked if it sounded like a bearing squeak. You could rebuild your existing engine, but the cost would probably be more than the used engine you found. Your probably going to need a new crank anyway. Once they spin a bearing, it's rare they will clean up at .030.

The high revs probably sucked a valve down and bent the valvestem or the cam. New engines for the LS cost several thousand dollars.

See, I told you it sucked a valve, which broke a piston and bent a connecting rod. And that new engines cost several thousand dollars. Can your insurance pay for this?

I definitely didn't suck a valve or break a piston and insurance will not pay for anything. I did however find an engine with 21k miles for only $1400 shipped. It should cost me another grand to get the engines swapped. So I'm looking at around $2400 to fix my car. I just bought the thing a week ago (from an individual) for $11,500 and it books on NADA for $14,750. So even after the new engine, I will have paid less than average retail. That's what I have to keep telling myself so I don't start shooting people.:D

Here's something else I'm wondering. Will this engine with 35k less miles than the old engine, raise the value of my car? If so, anyone know how much?

I think typically an engine swap lowers the value of the car unless the car is super high miles. I think that would be one of those things that you don't want to mention if you ever get rid of it.

you could by a v8 engine/tranny combo and pick up a pcm for not too much more than that. might entertain a v8 conversion:)

 DAMNIT! I can't catch a break. Let me tell you a little story.

I got to my base (Air Force) in Missouri about 3 years ago. I needed a car so I bought a '95 Blazer. The day after I bought it, it started smoking out of the tailpipe really bad. Turns out the head gaskets needed replaced and the heads had to be machined. Since the 30 day warranty only covered "internal lubricated parts only" I had to pay the $900 to fix it. Got it fixed and was heading to Tennessee (home) on a weekend when it threw a rod and destroyed the engine. I had it towed back to the car lot because this was definitely an internal lubricated part! They said they would fix it and they gave me an old ass Chrysler van as a loaner. I started to drive it to Tennessee when it THREW A :q:q:q:qING ROD about 150 miles away from my destination! I had it towed to the nearest exit and had my wife come and get me (she was in Tennessee). We drive back to Missouri and wait for my Blazer to get fixed. They finally call me and tell me that it’s done and when I give them a check for $700, I can pick it up. :q:q:q:q that! I had to sue them to get my money back. Then I go to a legit dealership and buy 2001 Nissan Sentra. Eight months later, my friend and I were going to Tennessee when he rear ended a station wagon with my car. TOTALED! I went back to the same dealership to buy my next car because I needed to roll the remaining amount I owed on the Sentra (I didn't have GAP insurance) into the new car's loan. I bought a 2001 Nissan Altima. Eight months later, my friend is driving my drunken ass home and hits a deer! Insurance paid for the $3000 worth of damage. Then, 2 weeks later, I took my car to the Kansas City Airport and my friend was going to drive it back home for me. As I'm getting on the plane, he calls me and tells me he hit another deer and this time he was going around 70mph. TOTALED! I was searching for another car when I fell in love with the Lincoln LS. I bought it from a woman who took excellent care of it, and drove it like a grandma. Within a week, I'm starting this thread BECAUSE MY DAMN ENGINE NEEDS REPLACED! I suck at life!

holy cow! be sure to post your portfolio here so we all can short it:)
