EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)

If you have stuck open EGR valve then you will experiences rough idling and occasional stalling but it should have no effect at high speed driving.

If the EGR valve is stuck close then the engine will be producing excessive NOX pollution.

~ they all rust relatively quickly.

just because something had rust on it, doesn't mean that it needs replacing...

the brackets on the strut tower look like crap with rust on mine, but they don't need to be changed at all.

Maybe in your neck of the woods. I have never had to replace one........

I've had to replace one or two, but not because of rust. However, 1LoudLS is correct. They always form surface rust very quickly just because of the nature of the materials and the exhaust gases. She can replace a perfectly working part if she wants to, but the brand new valve will be just a rusty looking after a month or two. It's going to get very expensive replacing the EGR every few months. It would be better to save that money for coils and cooling system parts.

Big Rig Ls...that was exactly what I needed to know...I won't mess with it ... Joe great my cooling system is now replaced...coils have been changed...I'm on to the Catalytic Converter...and a new DCCV...but the EGR is cheap..got it for 75 new..I buy ahead..Thank my question were answered..good day

Form-Fit-Function, F3 or FFF.

The OP requested to learn what said part was called, additionally I noted they tend to develop surface rust.

Did not suggest anything to the fact that if it's rusted it must be replaced.

A slightly discolored/rusted but fully functional EGR valve could easily be masked off, scuffed up with some steel wool, then rattle canned with some black high heat paint to improve appearance.
