Recent Mustang based Lincoln coupe rumors. Does not look good IMHO as this is just badge engineering, but, I do hope they make a serious luxury sport coupe that is NOT just a fancy Mustang.

A 4 door Mustang based Lincoln would make a lot more sense. That's something a Mustang could never be. A coupe would just be redundant but cool.

I agree. Ford claims to have learned their badge engineering lessons on the MKS/Taurus, but apparently not. Nobody is going to pay 59 grand for a V6 Mustang they can get for 20 grand. Still, it's a nice looking concept.

why the hell can't they offer both a coupe AND a sedan?!?

thats what I want, mustang power, Right Wheel Drive, two doors, and just a little nicer trim options inside!

also using a mustang chassis and not offering a V8 as an option would just be just ridiculous.

This.

I've never liked the butterfly grille at all, but the rest of the car is pretty, admittedly. But if that car were fitted with a 5.0 Coyote, I don't care if it is 59K, I will busk on the streets and collect can money to rally one up. That would be a lot more impressive than these 4-gerbil FWD anemic egg timers the trying to call Lincolns these days.

Every few months another automotive site publishes a story like this. Ford has never said they will use the coyote platform to create such a car, nor has denied it. Keep dreaming.... Ford has enough problems with Lincoln already. I doubt this gets done anytime soon. If/When it does would anyone have any confidence that it wouldn't be just as awful looking as all the current Lincolns? I sure don't

^^^^ haha true. They seem to be stuck on these designs, big ugly grilles, big blimps. I wonder if the statistics show them that these designs are fantastic. I wonder where they are getting their info from to make them pump more of these boats out telling them that's the right direction. Their market has been the older crowds but that doesn't mean make ugly cars. You can make great looking stock cars with room for improvement for the younger guys to mod them inside and out but just make a great looking car to begin with, give us a good foundation to start with, the right body lines and proportional accents. The rear is pretty damn sexy on that first post, the front is decent but without the huge grille, plus a 4 door version could fit nicely with those lines.

You guys have it all wrong. Lincoln is NOT interested in selling new cars to a demographic that is interested modifying their vehicles. Just look at the Lincoln accessory catalog. They're interested in the young professional that is more interested in image than the driving experience or modifying the car. They are too busy with family and have little disposable income to "waste" on modifying a perfectly fine automobile. They also couldn't care less about 2nd and 3rd owners.

This is just more Lincoln vaporware. Besides, how many here have the income to buy one of these new?? I know I've purchased my last new car!!

Like I said, they just need to give us a great looking stock car, those who choose to modify, young or old, will at least be working with a good base/foundation. Putting perfume on crap doesn't change what it is haha.

Who is Lincoln competing against? Seems like they're getting left behind in the ugly division. All these other luxury brands are doing it right, I could see myself owning an a BMW, Audi, Cadillac, even a Lexus over a Lincoln. I like various models in stock form and even more when nice aftermarket touches are added to those but just because your demographic is some professional who just wants to drive a classy car doesn't mean you have to give him an expensive and ugly blimp.

They're seem to be competing with Buick.....

Sales numbers say that's working.

well I have to hope that they start making it if I'm ever going to want to buy one used one day...

Not going to happen. Ford Motor Company sold Lincoln to Hyundai.

I'm not sure how some of you guys are seeing a four door with that roof line. You'd have to be under five feet to sit in the back and Ford would have to add a foot to the wheel base to have any kind of decent legroom.

I could see Lincoln using the greenhouse of the mustang and the doors and changing up the front and the back, interior etc... but I hope it doesn't look like the renderings. The butterfly grille is hideous and they really don't NEED to make it look like the other current lincolns. Use some Mark styling cues from the best years and give it some attitude!!

Please use the V8! V8= premium car especially in the minds of Lincolns demographic(older people). Why would you want to pay 20 grand more for Aunt Maybelle's tarted up v6 mustang? V8's just sound better and it should have those muffler bypasses at wot like Mercedes and BMW. They should be putting the 2017 Coyotte with 475 horsepower (or whatever) because it's a Lincoln and Lincoln is supposed to get the good stuff first etc. They need to hit the interior out of the part too, like they did in 1993 with the Mark VIII. Something really out of this world!

Young professionals looking for a car for image don't visit Lincoln dealers, they visit BMW dealers. And, some of us here do have the income to buy a new car. The only reason I've not done so myself is I'm working on building a house. As soon as it's up, the LS is gone and I'll be replacing it with a new car. I wouldn't mind another Lincoln, but it won't be another LS and it won't be a front wheel drive based car. On the Mustang roofline, they could solve the problem of rear headroom by borrowing the early 90s Cougar roofline, IE run the roof back then use a vertical piece of glass instead of an angled piece for the rear glass. It could be made to look sharp while providing plenty of headroom.

Wait... Really? Wow, I never thought that would happen, I mean I know they've been doing terribly in the past 5+ years, So will Lincoln still be considered an "American" brand or not? Even though I'm a Cadillac guy, I have to say it's a real shame, Lincoln has made some great cars over the years with Ford. What is Ford going to have to tackle the Luxury market?

Oh wait never mind, I saw stugots post, oops LOL :p

If I could Photoshop worth a damn....., I think a Genesis sedan / LS might look OK. V8, rear wheel drive. If Ford bought interest in Hyundai (like they had in Mazda before), they could get the stampings, chassis, etc. cheap! I know I am just dreaming or halucinating.....but Lincoln could offer a rear drive/V8 sedan with minimal investment. Buying a Korean engineered Lincoln might be something that many would revolt with though.

Well they need something to compete with the Audi coupes and it could be considered an update of the '68 Cougar XR7

Looks like you shopped the old Genesis. I never cared for that styling but the new 2015 I think is stunning.

$50k at Lincoln gets you an ugly Taurus with a TTv6 and a heavy front bias AWD system. $50k and Hyundai gets you a 420hp V8 rear wheel drive sedan that can out handle anything at Lincoln. Not to mention more features, better warranty, and better resale value. Hopefully something changes soon.

+1
The hansen art rendering is not very appealing.
But using the platform and changing some of the lines is intriguing.
They need a coupe, not another 4 door.

It would also need a power train improvement that is not offered in a mustang, make it stand on its own.
Lincoln offers nothing to the performance minded.
