The other day I noticed at the front of the engine compartment and just to the passengers side from center... a small red pool (trans fluid?).. maybe an inch or so around... underneath I found 2 hoses with clamps which I tightened and seemed to fix the leak... now this morning the car didnt start and tried and tried.. started up.. got a bit of smoke coming up and smells like coolant... I check and there is a pool of coolant on the passengers side and to the rear of the engine... I took my hand undereath the air intake (V6) there is a round portion that sticks out over the manifold.. it seems to be leaking from that area. cant be sure though... but there is definitely a leak. and it drips on the manifold.. this is new as I checked for leaks just 2 days ago when I was under it. Any Ideas?

As far as the red fluid, your hydraulic cooling fan system uses ATF. Your power steering uses ATF, And of course your transmission does. I'm not familiar with the v6, so I don't know what's in that area where your leak is coming from.

The fan is electric on the 2005, not hydraulic. I don't know enough about the V6 to know where coolant might leak from either.

yeah, im pretty sure its an electric fan...

I dont know if the coolant is leaking around the infamous
plastic water tube or housing that cracks open and its maybe
dripping down that way... or what... I'll have to take some pics of the area and post them up.

will know more when I can get back and peel off the plastic and take a look.

out of curiosity are there any inlets/ crossovers hoses on the rear of the intake??

Does the gen 2 have a heated TB like the gen1? If it does the coolant could be coming from there.

Ford doesn't usually use hose clamps that you can tighten with a screw driver is that's what you did. Maybe someone added an aftermarket trans cooler?

not sure if its coolant or not... cant tell for sure... when I put my finger back there today it almost had an oil feel to it.
