LED Lights on the Bumper?

I think my favorite LED tail lights of all time are the ones on the late 90's and early 00's Cadillacs. They are the trapezoidal shaped ones that lit up the entire lens and had that shimmery look instead of individual dots of light.

+1 I loved that design.

I think NoLimit's lights look good. I'd love to see one done in black, but I have a thing for black Marks and black cars in general for that matter. I'm bookmarking this page as an idea for something I might try whenever I find another Mark VIII.

I've got a set of LED strips somewhere I picked up a long time ago to put on one of my Marks, both of which have HID housings. I was looking to put them on the top side. I feel inspired now to find them and hook them up. ;)

This is what the strip looks like when not on, during the day. If you're down right in front of it, it can barely be seen.

At night, it does pretty much light up as shown below but without the amount of glare that's seen in the pic but also they don't look dot to dot when you stand back from it.

It was something to do and only took 30 to 45 min and didn't involve splicing into my existing wiring at all. The wires are small enough to fit into the socket and still be plugged back in and locked into place. I still haven't tested it to see how a single straight line will look but I will and I'll of course take pics. ;)

The only way I'd do it grab some OEM Audi S6 lights and flush them in... that would be awesome

I also kinda like it. I would like to see what those running lights would look like tucked down into the bumper....

Like into the molding of a base model? I could see that, but then it reminds me of a Kia Amanti. (puke) ;)

Ahh, very true. I was thinking like down under the plate bracket on a 2nd gen. Off to each side of course, but down at that level.

MY opinion is to leave them to the Audis. They just look right with that aggressive styling. MAYBE something could flow with the 1st gen Marks, but because they have the slim headlights...

Only if they were sequential as turn signals....all 50 segments. :D

I've wanted to do this with my 93 to see what it would look like ...

I done my headlights for $20 because I was bored but honestly, when the sun is going down, they are bright just like an Audi. I tried taking a night time pic but they are showing too much of a glare and they really don't look like the pic shows them from a distance. They really look wicked from a distance. They are "side shine SMD LED's" 24" and can be cut after every 3rd LED. During the day, you can stand right in front of it if they were off and never even see them.

Here is a distant shot but remember, the glare isn't like you see in the pic but they are very bright but not headlight bright. I think the white bumper cover is helping make the glare.

I've been seeing so many cars lately with daytime led lighting on the bumper. They look really nice, so I started to wonder what would these lights look like on the Mark? I don't know if it would look cheesy or not. There is no shortage of them on Ebay. What do you think?

These lights really look nice and no wonder I am using them. I have got new car and will add these bumper lights very soon:)

Ideas

The 98 has the LED'S mounted inside the housing. It cast a reflection off the lense that lights up the chrome when just the led's are on. At night they broadcast a dot-like pattern with the headlights on. The 95 their just glued under the light fixture. I use them as daytime running lights and you can notice them a block away. Just straight and sleek like my MK VIII'sHID LED 95.jpgLED3.jpg

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm thinking about doing this myself only having them be right under the trim on the bumper. Probably have cut into, or mount the strips on the bumper somehow. But - I was wondering how you did this? What are they connected to? Do they provide any extra light for the road?
