I tried searching, through the forums and google, and found no hits for this.

2001 Lincoln LS V8

Today was the first day I had this issue. When I turn on my parking lights/fog lights/ head lights, I lose power to my message centers, dash lights, HVAC lights and controls. The radio still works.

If I turn the lights off, all power comes back, if I turn my lights on to the autodelay, I keep all power. But as soon as I turn the knob to the right, I lose the dash power.

Any ideas? I have had the car for 3 months with no prior electrical issues like this. The only thing different about today was it was our first snow, but the snow was about 1/8th of an inch, nothing drastic, temps were 29 degrees, we've been around that temp for the last 2 weeks with no issues.

Edit: It was a broken Dimmer switch. Thanks Guys!

lol...TURN YOUR DIMMER SWITCH UP

Exactly. You have it set so low that the displays are dimmed too much to be viewable. The displays are at full brightness when the parking or headlights are off. When they are on, the displays go to the brightness level set by the dimmer control.

Found the issue. Dimmer switch is broken. Time to order a new one.

And as long as I created a thread for such a stupid thing (sorry about that, by the way) I assume my Hvac control buttons are all supposed to light up correct? Because only Auto and Rear Defrost buttons themselves light up. The lights above each button work, but none of the other buttons light up. Any way to replace the interior bulbs, or do I need to buy a whole new HVAC module?

good question, I noticed my forward gear LED on the SST is out, was wondering if it can just be swapped.

im sure the SST could be swapped out, easy to get to anyway... The HVAC control is a different story, those are not made to come apart.... could you, maybe. If you new what you were doing... and willing to disassemble.

Yes, the buttons light up. No, they are not LEDs. They are not user replaceable, unless you are handy with a soldering iron (so I have been told, I haven't had cause to look myself.)

yeah I have an entire SST assembly, just not sure if I want to swap it just because of the LED.

I have a spare HVAC control module if your interested Jackrabbit

I would be interested in it, but probably not until after the holidays. How much you looking for it?

I'll dig it up and send you a jpeg, I remember it being in great cond.

$20 + shipping?

Still interested? I just paid off all three vehicles and this semesters tuition, so I am set to put money into the LS now.

Also, you wouldn't happen to know where I can get the upper dash vent complete with message center controls for an 01? My message buttons got pushed in and broke off due to an over exuberant drunk passenger stabbing their fingers at it on NYE
