Lincoln LS: Why do you love your LS.........

Navigator was just a ginned up Explorer with a huge price tag, doesn't count.

not to nit pick, but the Aviator was built off of the Explorer chassis. the Navigator is built off of the Expedition chassis. and with the exception of the 1st gen Navi's (which were pretty much carbon copies with minor trim differences) both the Aviator and Navigator are worlds better than their ford counterparts. even the best eddie bauer editions didn't hold a candle to the Lincolns interiors. with next to none of the same interior trim, panels or materials. if completely different interiors wasn't enough, the drivetrain upgrades are quite nice as having the aluminator 4.6/5.4 is quite a bit better than the two valve mod motor.

not to mention for the entire time the 1st gens were out, the Continental, which has been the standard of luxury and lincoln for decades now...

the LS was literally the bottom of the totem pole in lincolns line up.

Almost forgot about the Continental. That was just a gussied-up Taurus!!

oh man, do you know how sweet it would be if there was a super navigator built off of the excursion chassis?!?

who wouldn't want a 6 liter coal rolling super nav on some 35"s from the raptor! sing me up.

except for the riding on a cloud comfort, and balls out cobra(near) V8 power, and perhaps the best looking gauge cluster I have ever seen! lol

Lincoln doesn't have to have a flagship luxury model to call the LS entry level. It's relative to the market, not manufacturer.

You guys and badge engineering. The Conti is as much Taurus as the LS is T-Bird. Pretty much eveery auto group does it. Some do it better (Audi/VW, BMW/Rolls), some do it poorly or can't justify it (Pontiac/Saturn/Chevy, Mercury, Mercedes S/Maybach). The Town Car has always been a dressed up Vic, but Lincoln has picked up with the current generations.

Actually, the T-Bird is the same as the LS; the LS was first. And the Jaguar S-Type is the same as the LS. That's why European LS sales were killed; Ford (Nasser) didn't want to compete with itself. The ESxxx is also just a tarted-up Camry.....

I dont know if I would go that far... the T-bird and the LS actually share most parts aside from the body... the continental shares almost nothing at all with the taurus other than the platform. brakes, suspension, drivetrain, interior pieces, none of it is the same.

now the vic, grand marquis, and town car are really different trims on the exact same chassis

The LS was a bit out of school for Lincoln and their usual appliance driving customers :slam who would not typically appreciate it's performance qualities but this orphan child is to our advantage due to the depreciation and relative low cost of purchase.
I've had mine for 7 1/2 years and plan to keep it another 3-5 years so depreciation is not an issue for me.

... A LOT of the weird things (like the window lift mechanism) the LS seems to have are a BMW copy. ...

I agree that the LS seemed to copy a lot from BMW, but if they copied the window regulators, they did it sometime long before the LS. I had a 94 Grand Marquis that had the same cable type regulators. I know, because I replaced all four of them, some more than once.

Good to know. I haven't really been inside a door for ages. Makes the failing regulators purely a supplier problem and not a design issue.

dont forget, if engineers were allowed to build the cars they really want too, every car would cost 100k!

the problem is that the engineers design great stuff, then the plans make it to accounting and then they start trimming as much of the fat as possible to make the car able to be produced fairly cheaply. this is where you find cheaper materials getting substituted in to meet the cost requirements.

That still goes further towards my point about it not being bad that the "Continental is a gussied up Taurus". But besides that, the only thing the LS/Bird share that the Conti/Taurs don't is the dash (and seats?). The Conti is a long wheelbase Taurus and the Bird is a short wheelbase LS.

And Joe, they bought a 540, tore it down, and used it as a guide for the LS, didn't they? The Gen 1 even has the same tail light pattern. Small outboard brake light and tail light on the quarter panel, then an awkwardly-spaced tail light too far in on the trunk. Also very similar headlights.

I have a BMW. It's clear that the LS copied a lot from it. However, as I said, Ford/Lincoln/Mercury have been using the same type window regulators since before 1994. If they copied them from BMW, then they did so long before the DEW98 project.
Most of the car companies use the same suppliers for part, so it's little wonder that so much of that stuff is similar.

Not to hijack my own topic guys but man this LS is really growing on me. It looks like my Degas Bottle/T-Stat/Lines to Degas/Degas Cap repair went okay. Compared to what I have driven in the past this engine/transmission is seamless in operation.

I thank you for the compliments.
I put about 250 hrs into the Vette.
I used to be a bodyman and painter and know my way
around cars.
I have my own private lift I parked the Vette on over the winter doing mods.
My LS mods are Home made CAI, SCT tune, LSD Posi, and a skirt kit and rear spoiler as well as Factory HIDs with Angel Eyes but mostly my 120 hr to do monster stereo with velcro held 7" tablet.
All this was done 4 years ago.
