Well every so often my temp gauge will rise all the way as if it is over heating but then i pull over and shut the car off for a min or two and it goes back to normal im thinking thermostat? not sure also if i run in hard for a little while when cruising with friends sometime when i shut it off then turn in back on it idles rough and when i push the gas the rpm drop like its not getting fuel but stays running its never stalled so i have to wait or turn the car off and on till it gets a lil better but most days its runs like a dream the way it should im lost on what to fix first but i am thowing on o2 sensor code not sure if tht would cause tht or not

Can't comment on the second part of your issues, but the first does sound like a stuck thermostat. There's a good chance your DCCV may be hosed (excuse the pun) too as a result. You'll know it is if you're getting warm or hot air when you should be getting cold - or vice versa.

what is DCCV?

Also bleed your cooling system just to make sure you dont have any air bubbles as they can cause some odd issues.

And check the DCCV fuse to make sure it isnt blown

ok thanks guys

I would strongly recommend that you also replace at least the two plastic parts of the thermostat housing. If they aren't already cracked, they may break when you take the thermostat out. As long as you are doing that, replace the degas bottle and drain and replace all the coolant.

Check your coolant bottle. It may have a crack in it, allowing air into the system and throwing the system into a panic, thinking it is overheating. A hot air bubble will sit around the sensor and then the engine thinks it is overheating so it goes into "limp home" mode and that is probably why you are experiencing it running differently. Doesn't hurt to check. it happened to mine and I had to tell the mechanics about it because they couldn't figure it out. LOL (I guess I better steer clear of those mechanics in the future, eh?)

iv seen alot of ppl on here replace there degas bottle is it that much of a problem for these cars jw? and thanks for the help guys

Yes, it is. The develop tiny cracks over time. Often the leaks are too small to notice, but enough to cause cooling system problems.

This is my original degas bottle after ~85k miles. No visible cracks from the top, just discoloration. The bottom though was another story...

It's not the miles so much as time and heat. Out there in the land of perpetual sunshine, heat is a serious issue.

We are currently under the marine layer and the sun should visit in a couple of hours. May Gray seems to have arrived early.......

Well this car is actually from Santa Barbara where it accrued it's 85k miles. It's only been living with me in the inferno for around 3 months now. But yeah I agree, any piece of plastic constantly subjected to massive temperature fluctuations is bound to meet this fate at some point.

Really glad I got my cooling system maintenance out of the way before the summer... ugh

I suspect (but don't know) that the number of hot to cold and cold to hot cycles that the bottle experiences may be a factor too.

On the topic a little. Its seems that when it is over 80 degrees outside my fan increases speed dramatically and the temp gauge goes a little past the half way mark. Is this the signs of a failing degass bottle? I know its never been changed, 125,000 miles.

Possibly.
I can't say that I pay any attention to the fan speed (My windows are always closed), but the temperature gauges on both of mine quickly go to the half way mark and then stay there. This includes prolonged idling in 100 degree weather. I would suspect that yours going over the half way mark indicated a problem.

Thanks. My windows are always up too and I have the air on. It usually doesn't kick into high gear until I'm at a stop and the needle rises slightly above the halfway mark. Not having air for most of last year, I can't remember what the fan speed did in the prior summer with air. I might try and bleed it and see if that does anything.
