looking to buy a lincoln ls... need some info

hey i am thinking bout getting a lincoln ls..... just need some help bout the car anything i should kno and look for when i am looking at them.. also i found a 2000 ls with a blow motor for 1500 bucks is it worth looking and buying... anything will help... thanks guys
 
search around, plenty of threads on this... And unless you already have a deal on a new motor, why not buy a working LS? If its a $$$ thing, you may want to look into a different vehicle... You will most likely spend far more than what its worth getting it running and keeping it running. what does a "blown" motor mean? wont start? off timing? broken internals?

Unless its in MINT condition, its worth about half that with a "blown" motor.... but again I wouldn't waste my time unless you know what your doing (ALTHOUGH, those who do know, wouldn't post this question).

Read THE REAL OFFICIAL LINCOLN LS OWNERS GUIDE thread. Its one of the first few thread on the LS board. It will tell you most of what you need to know. They are great cars but some may say they are high maintenance.

thanks guys for the info... i just saw the ls today so let me give you guys more on the car..... it a 2000 v8... inside of the car is brand now just need some cleaning.. and on the outside is clean no dent just a few scrachs... but i kno i can take them out with some wax and the clay bar that i have.... it needs a new front bumper cuz it a lil beat up and i dont like it.. and the guy told me the motor went.. and he said he cant get it to the trunk cuz of a dead batt.. and the batt is in the trunk so he said... we talk a lil and i kno i can get it for 800 bucks.. and i kno a family friend said he will do the swap for me for cheap cuz he knos me and he works on these cars with other at his job... also the seller told me the car has 170xxx miles on the body... what do u guys think
 
and to be honest i am learning bout this cars i stay online reanding now.... i always been in to honda lol but now i do want to step my game up so i said i and an ls lol

800 bucks is not a bad price. But If you dont have a few thousand dollars around to make this car like new again (suspension, engine, cooling system, etc) then you should buy something else. I got mine for $2900 and I've put around $5,000 or $6,000 into it so far and I still have alot I want to do. The LS can nickle and dime you to death. Even for me (moneybags...lol)
 
yea i kno what u mean with money i just been working my ass off at my 2 jobs but i been looking and for a ls that i want i seen they go for money.. cuz i do want to drop it and do a few up grades on the car too so i was just think to my self that this one will be good cuz when it at the shop i can do what i want to do to the car... and i was saying to myself if i do get this car and do the motor i was going to go to the dealer to buy the water pump and the 2 timming chain tensors... anything more i should do to the motor cuz right now i just pricing everything out at work lol b4 i buy the car
 
Are you mechanically inclined or will you be forking out the money to replace what needs to be replaced? If you are mechanically inclined it may be worth it to you, if not the car is expensive to fix. Something like a motor, which may cost 1500, may end up costing you double with labor. Right there you're looking at over 3k just for a car that probably has more issues. With 170,000 miles who knows how the transmission is, drivetrain, etc. I wouldn't risk the investment unless you can do the work yourself and cut the costs.

I agree. If I wasn't doing all my own work to this car I'd be in the $10-12,000 range for a car that blue books at around $8,000. I haven't even replaced all the suspension parts or done my LSD and timing chain overhaul yet.

yes i am mechanically inclined when it comes to cars.... it just i saw the deal and wanted to get some feed back on it.... if anything ill just keep looking
 
I bought my 2002 for $500 with a good engine and a transmission that needs some lovin' :D

Still working on it, have only had it a week or so. Going to try to add some fluid and see what happens. I've seen a few transmissions going for anywhere between 300 and 650 but just haven't had much time to make a decision on what to do. My feeling is that I'm going to put as little into this car as possible since I'm not even sure how long I'll have it. If it turns out to be more trouble than it's worth then I'm getting rid of it. Seems also that there are more V-8s needing engines than V6s which makes it difficult when looking for a transmission.
 
I traded my well maintained 02 V8 Sport for 2K. The car had a rebuilt title (was stolen, and rear ended before being recovered).... I bought the car with 19K miles and traded it at about 140K I maintained it with an anal mindset. Even though the title was rebuilt someone somewhere is going to get a hell of a car in an auction. That being said a perfect running (paint crappy) 02 could be had for 2K.
 
yea cuz now i am looking at a few more.... a few i seen running just want to find that right one
 
what i found on CL.... what you guys think

2002 Lincoln LS V8 Premium. 189,000 all highway miles, motor runs really strong and oil changes were made regularly using Mobile 1 synthetic. The car is black with charcoal leather interior, sunroof, Alpine 6 disc CD changer and chrome wheels. Recently the Transmission light came on and the car shifts a little funny but the car is driveable. I have not taken the car to get checked out, but it is safe to assume it will need a Transmission replacement ($700-$1200), unless it just needs a service. Either way the car is priced at $2500 to accommodate the repairs associated with the Transmission, the car also could use a set of tires.
 
I would stay away from it. 189K miles is a ton. All highway miles? Probably always garage kept and never seen rain as well... With transmission problems and tires and probably more things you'll quickly find out, you'll be $4-5K in.

I think with patience you'll do better. If you can afford not to rush, you'll find something good.
 
Honestly don't, i bought one (2001) v-8 with bail barring out, ended up being more then just a bail barring. Bought it for 750 clean title, and 220k miles on body. Spent nearly 5000 into repairs and never ran that great either... sold it for 3500 and bought an 2003 without any issues and enjoy it so much more. now im not worrying about not being able to get home from where i go, and i also know everything will hold up a little more since it has a third of the mileage now. Now you should be able to find an Lincoln LS in good condition with around 90-100k miles for 5-7 grand. im selling mine for 9 and has 88k miles.
