hey everyone! i'm a transplant from the "import tuner" market. (i'm a racer NOT A RICER!!) i had to sell my subaru :( so my grandfather handed me down an 88 town car cartier:cool: . i've poked around the TC forum before posting and have been doing some homework on my car. i have to say that i'm VERY impressed with it but i would really like to get some more performance/mileage out of it.
anyhow... here are my questions:

1. will 5.0L shorty mustang headers bolt on without any mods?

2. where can i find sway bars and what will i have to mod to fit them?

3. would high flow intake components (manifold, throttle body, intake, ect..) yeild worth while gains?

4. does anyone have suggestions on where to find some CLASSY wire wheels? how much do they usually cost?

5. who make/sells aftermarket headlamps that will bolt into the stock location?

I'm pretty sure mustang shorty headers won't fit without some modification. I think its mainly the metal air injection tubes from the smog pump that get in the way.

You won't realize very much gain by upgrading the throttle body or manifold. The TC uses whats called speed density where the computer is set to certain specs and it won't recognize you mods. With today's mass air systems the computer recognizes mods and will make the most of them.

Did your Cartier come with the stock aluminum wire wheels? I think those are classy. If not you should look into them.

:W :Beer My Girlfriend has the same Year and it's is also a Catrier.

When you asked about the headlights, are you looking for replacements or something different. If you are looking for the actual head lamps, best place to look would be a Junkyard for the cheapest set of lamps. If you want new ones The only place I know to find them are the dealer.

hmmm... i saw a thread about headlamps (not bulbs) that had a link to some Hella units. i think Black87LSC has them... maybe i just missread that thread but i'm sick of the stock headlights' gross underachievement. if there are no actuall aftermarket lamps that fit then i'll certainly be getting high output bulbs. *BLING!!!*

i'm also getting ready to put in a power inverter and an audio system. i'm wondering where the best place is to run power lines through the firewall. anyone have pics? i'm kind of leary about removing the whole dash then realizing it could have been much easier.

anyhow, i'll be washing and waxing her today so i'll try and put some pics on my profile... what a beautiful beast...

peace~matt

i found these on partsamerica.com and they show as being a direct replacement for a ton of 70/80s vehicles. that would make sense considering auto makers durrin that time were obsessed with pinching pennies buy using interchangable parts.

I bought some Hella's from a guy on Ebay a little while back. The ones that I got have a stock design, but they are converted to H4's... The H4's let you have a replacable bulb, and you can upgrade to 100w!!! The new lights come with an adapter to hook between the stock harness and the unit. The guy I bought my lights from goes by the name davesusquehanna(Susquehanna Motorsports), I am very happy with the brightness of mine. I will be putting 100w bulbs in mine soon, but first I have to find out how to wire the relays in so I wont screw up the switch

First off, Welcome to LVC. I am also a member of the import crew, all though I still own my 1995 Honda Civic with a B-16. This is my economical, reliable machine. Tooo tempting to speed in.

For suspension, I believe some people have put in Police duty sway bars out of Ford Crown Victoria's? try searching for that on here and www.lincolnsonline.com I'd reccomned just the rears, as these cars push to no end.

As far as performance in the engine department goes, I'd recommend looking into the HO swap. Basically whole top end off of a Mustang, Cougar, or the likes.

As far as the headers go, an idea is to take off the stoopid smog pumps all together, get a slightly shorter belt, and get a whole new dual exhaust setup, it will improve gasmileage, power, sound, and i'm sure the stock one is rusted.

i'm sure some people know what a B16 is but i get the point... anyone know what an EJ25 is? :p

so i just had a misshap with some stereo wiring... i was stripping wires to test them and two of them touched. i replaced a fuse under the dash but i still have no power to the radio or interior lights. i checked all of the others and they're all fine... i'm pretty sure that anything powered from that fuse box doesn't work. any ideas on where the breaker/fuse is to fix this?

87 TC here and I currently run the Silver Stars - and holy crap are they bright.

IMHO the best upgrade w/o doing a ton of work for your headligh systems. When I get a digi camera (or fine someone that has it) i'll get some pics.

Also - I ran my amp wiring on the lower passengerside firewall - there is a large grommit i just made a slit in and bam - it works very well and you can't even see it! :D

Here is what I have and I love it - you should check it out! hits very nice w/o the sub -and I can't wait tillI get my sub!

JVC KDLH910 - Head Unit

Boston Acoustics NX-67 6.5 (front speakers)

Poneer Premier TS-D691R (6" x 9" REV-series 2-Way Speaker) - Rear speakers

JL Audio 300W/4 (got it feeding all 6 speakers though)

Since they (Car Tunes) where already in there I also had them wire it up for a sub later down the road. I WANT to get some 1000/1 from JL audio with 3 of their 13W7s...(but that's down the line like THIS summer hopefully)

that's a nice system so far! watch out for those W7s, they're monsters! my best friend had one 13W7 in a contour SVT with a 1200w amp. after two months he sold it becuase it was too much bass! it easily blew away my 2 12's.

HO conversion, or HO swap. Tranny cooler!!!

www.altezzawarehouse.com they have a altezza version of the towncar headlights, that will probably require a rewire for any real wattage.

90 towncar hi flo headers. A bit better than the eighties ones, but only if you are doing any upgrades. The standard issue 5.0 is not really one for mods. I would swap to the HO and go from there. Welcome to small block territory!!!!
