There is a low mileage (66k) 2000 V6 near me that I may go look at. It's basically the same as my 2002 but with an Alpine and the CD6 in the Glove Box. It does have heated seats. Completely stock. Pictures look good. White in color. I would want to swap my wheels/tires as they are new with less than 400 miles.

What concerns are there for 1st year models?

Most of the first year concerns have likely been fixed on it by now. An upgrade would be to look for a gen II V8. (If you like heated seats, then try heated and cooled seats.)
The odds are good that the gen I seat heat elements have failed on it.

And that wouldn't really bother me as I am not a fan of heated seats anyway. As for 'upgrading', I would not own a G2 V8 if it was given to me.

Your loss...

In your opinion. I read too many horror stories about the V8 and the overheating issues.

Upon closer inspection, I did find a flaw - a bit of body damage to a door. Doesn't look that bad however.

I have an 04 (around 180K) and an 06 (around 140K). Neither have ever left me stranded, and neither have ever overheated. I have had to replace all the plastic cooling system parts (except radiator) on both one time so far. I just had to replace the radiator on the 06. Please note that the gen I V6 has the same plastic degas bottle, similar plastic parts in the radiator hoses, and the same radiator. The cooling fans in the 1st gen (v6 and V8) are known to be less reliable than the electric fans on the gen II. Still, I wouldn't let the facts get in the way of the horror stories...

in no way is the cooling system superior in the 1st to the 2nd... not one.

I'd love to hear your list on why its not upgrading...

I don't have a list but I will point out that just because something was changed, that doesn't mean it was improved. Personally, I like having a Hand Brake. I also prefer the black Dash Trim on the Gen 1 over Gen 2; Gen 2 looks cheap, IMHO. I like having Wiper Fluid ports that aren't part of the Wiper. I like the chrome accents on the Gen 1. I like having the ability to replace my Headlights without having to fork over $1500 per headlight.

And I never said the Cooling System was better. Every thread I have ever read about the Cooling System overheating or needing a complete replacement was on a V8. It seems to me that the Duratec V6 is more reliable. Saw a V6 listed on Craigslist today that had 210,000 miles. I'm at 150,000 now and driving 2000 miles a year means I'm good for another 30 years - should I live to be 85.

Gen II has a hand brake, it's just electrically activated. I do appreciate that there is a difference, but it's done everything I've needed so far (and it does work at controllable force levels as an emergency brake).

The washer spray ports are most certainly not part of the wipers. They are stationary just like gen I, in fact they are more stationary (don't move with the hood). They're just hidden under the hood instead of on top.

HID headlights on gen II was an option that most did not have. The halogen headlights are comparable in price the the gen I headlights. In fact, if you have HIDs, you can downgrade to halogens if you want to.

+1^.... now if you dont like the appearance changes... thats a personal choice. but has nothing to do with "upgrades" (other than aesthetics)

I guess by Hand Brake I mean one that I can control the braking of the car with the force I apply to the Hand Brake, should I ever need to do that. As for the Wiper Washer ports, I learned something. I thought they were integrated into the Wipers.

You get (have control of) three different levels of brake force from the hand brake switch. Yes, this is not as many levels as you get with the direct hand lever, but it has been enough.

You don't want a gen II, and that's fine, but you really should look closely at one and drive it, before you make false statements about it.

all add, the improvements (from a performance and engineering standpoint) far out way a few cosmetic changes...

If wondering, the list of the 500+ changes is on here somewhere

Exactly what false statements have I made? I voiced my opinion, not facts.

Location of windshield washer nozzles, headlight costs, ...

HID Headlights can cost $1500 and I was grateful to have learned where the nozzles were. You see - I don't have issue with being wrong, it means I learned something.

HID Headlights can cost $1500 ....

This is a little pointless. HIDs are not a common option on gen II (One of mine has them, and the other does not.), HIDs can be replaced by halogen.
You can very easily find a gen II without HIDs. If you do find one with them, I will gladly trade you my 04's halogens for them.

Gen I headlamps are in the $240 range (new) if you can find them, less on e-bay.
Gen II halogen headlamps are in the $500 range (new), if you can find them, less on e-bay.
Gen II HIDs are indeed $1500 new, if you can find them, they are often much less on e-bay.

Lets play your game a minute. Pick a random part that you might one day need. I pick the gen I hydraulic fan system. It's not available new at all now. When it was, it was somewhere close to $4,000. Of course, e-bay for used ones is considerably less, but there is greater risk of the used parts being worn out. One option is to convert to the gen II electric fan...

Anyway, it doesn't bother me if you want to stay with gen I, and it shouldn't bother me that your specific examples of why seem so invalid.

I stopped in to look it over as it's right next door to the store and I needed dog food. It's been smoked in and you can tell just the moment you open the door. It did start right up but I think I heard a bit of rattle as it first turns over. The body damage is more apparent in person and includes the lower valance as well. The Alpine sounded good and a cursory check indicated everything was working. With the CD Changer in the Glove Box I can't see how you could get an OM or even a pair of gloves in there. Salesman came out and put a $3995 price on it as I was there. I wasn't impressed enough to even consider trading in my 2002 with 85,000 more miles but if I had, they would then have a nicer car.

all I can say is after owning both, I wouldn't go near a 1st gen let alone a v6 of either generation no matter how good the price...

also after owning both, I can surely tell you that most of those changes were huge improvements!

the CD changer in the glove box would also be a no starter as losing that amount of storage space for such a useless item just seems crazy...

oh man, the though of losing the one touch auto up windows makes me want to cry :(

and I don't know if I could live with out automatic climate controlled seats again! the basic ass heated seats in my wife's escape makes me almost feel one step above being homeless.

OMG, could you imagine everybody in your car fighting over a charger port!!!!
