Ok guys. My LS is now back on the road after having a bad coil. I replaced my VCG, all 8 coils and my front upper control arms.
My Felpro VCG was purchased at Napa for $72.
Since owning the LS, I've had to replace 3 coils not counting the one that just gave me issues. I was buying them from Autozone since they come with a lifetime warranty. I didn't want to buy more from them and have some coils be older then the rest. I ordered all 8 from aipelectronics.com for around $92 shipped. I know they're on the cheap side but I figured for the price I could take the chance. At $18 each it's not that big of a risk considering I already need new catalytic converters from when I had 2 bad coils prior to finding this awesome site.
I bought the upper control arms from tasca.com for $210 shipped and the needed nuts and bolts for around $18. When I opened the box I noticed they were Jaguar parts (sweet lol). The old ones off of the car had no names or logos just some numbers. I let the mechanic keep the old control arms for recycling.
I was trying to do all the work myself but was having trouble getting into a warm garage. When I finally got it in one, I couldn't get 2 of the gasket bolts off. After calling a big shop for a quote I put it in the shop with a little local mechanic my neighbor recommended. The quote I received from the big shop was "In our book it shows about 4 hours for the VCG and $199 for the control arms. From the book it's going to cost you $450 - $500 but could cost more. We won't know until we get done. I was supplying all of the parts and just paying for the labor. I had a price in mind that i thought it should cost to do the labor and called the recommended mechanic. He quoted me $200 for the VCG and $100 for the control arms. That's exactly what I had in mind and said yes.
Now to the part you guys probably care about instead of all that other info lol. After driving it around for a bit it seems to have a more responsive motor with more power. I'm not sure if it's the coils or not driving it for about 2 weeks. The new control arms makes it handle better then it has since I bought the car in 09. So far (knocking on wood) the only thing I know that needs to be fixed is the catalytic converters, some previous owner dents, moon roof leak, heating seat issues. There might be more minor things but I can't think of them right now.
Thanks for taking the time to help with all my topics for help and just being apart of the site. Once everything posts in my bank account and I know what I have left. I'm going to become a paid member to contribute something back to the site.
I felt good about getting my car back on the road so I took a trip to buy myself a gift of happiness.
What do you think of the gift?
Any comments, advice or questions, feel free to add.
