LS Steering wheel doesn't lock

I have seen in other threads that some say their LS steering wheel locks, while others say that the wheel does not lock on the LS. It's difficult to test for a bad ball joint, etc. when the steering won't lock. Anybody have some insight on this issue?

Which issue, ball joints or the fact that the LS sold in North America does not have a steering wheel lock?

Only the manual 5 speeds have a locking steering column.

I'm in north America and mine locks. You cant move it at all when the car is off. I noticed the 1st gen ones dont seem to lock. I've got a gen 2.

No, your 2nd gen wheel does not lock. You are confusing the lack of power assist (engine off) with locking. That does make the wheel very hard to turn very far, but it is not locked. Don't believe me? Jack up the front of the car (front wheels just off the ground) and then turn the steering wheel with the key out.
