So the name of this site is "Lincoln vs. Cadillac"... I have a buddy that has a 2000 STS. He's always bugging me about the LS I want to buy... He's always saying that the STS is way better than the LS (Looks, performance, reliability and he goes on and on and on...) What do you guys think I should tell him? LOL I should own a LS in a few months providing I can find one I like in a good price. In my mind, the LS is better than the STS but would I be comparing apples with bananas?

I'd like to know what you guys like about your LS :D and what makes it better than the General.

the sts is just ugly. I HATE the front end. They tried to be sporty with it but it still looks like dookie.

Performance wise the LS will run circles around the STS. Not only is it RWD witch handles better the suspension on the LS is one of the best around truly world class. At 300HP and 295lb he will have a power advantage but I'd put money its a lot heavier then the LS. I say an 03+ with 280 horse and 286 torque would make the STS its :q. An 02- might still win in a race but has a 20hp disadvantage.

All in all the LS is pretty reliable there is the miss fire issue but that seems to be mostly for the valve cover leak that's easy to fix other then that there aren't any real issues with the LS ford put it together right this time.

Looks are a matter of opinion personal I think that's the only caddy that has ever looked good. but inside its just like all other GM's cheep cheep cheep.

Truth is the LS just blows the STS away if you want to go down the check list at least compared to the older ones like your friends 2000. Just take a sport modal for a test drive and you'll fall in love. Let him take it for one and you'll probably never see him or the car again :)

The only thing I like better on the STS is the Northstar V8. I think it is a better engine than the V8 in the LS. I believe the 2000 STS with 300HP would do 0-60 in around 6.5 to 6.8 seconds. That's a little faster than most LS's. Of course the handling of the STS doesn't come anywhere close to the LS.

Well, if he's going on about looks, performance, reliability, etc., and placing the STS in a category higher than the LS, I'd tell him that I value his friendship and care about him as a person. Then I'd urge him to seek counseling for his delusions of grandeur and disconnection with reality.

Best,

Ugh....boy do I disagree. The 3.9 is the smoothest running V8 I have seen in an American car. A good friend of mine owns a Cadillac dealership. He has been trying to get me in one for years. I finally took him up on a test drive one day and took out an STS. When I got back, I put him in my LS and had him drive it. He was absolutely amazed at how well it ran and how it handled. He had no idea they were that good. I swear my LS would out run the STS. It was at least as good a performer.

By the way...they've had their share of problems in the Northstar too...including leaking crank case halves that were a VERY serious repair.

how bout helping us out and tell us what years of STS and LS you'd be looking at?

I know yer buddy has a 2000, but is that what he wants you to buy? Or are you comparing new '06 models of each?

And if you are looking at used LSs, are we talking V8 or V6 here?

My Buddy's STS is a 2000. I was looking at 2000-2002 LS.

I just said that cause I didn't want to compare the STS with the LS really. I know they have similarities (V8, Luxury+Performance). I know the LS is better than the STS but I just wanted to know what made it better in your guys' head. What makes you smile when you drive your LS?

a good friend of mine owns a 2000 sts,and he swears by it. he swears everytime i beat him down in my LS....fyi cadillac has had major issues with valve gaskets too:p right now my wifes drives my old cadillac catera..i loved it until i got my LS..

Going from 60 to 90, (once the person in the passing lane moves to the right) and not even realizing it until I look at the speedometer. (Then I slow down.) The quality -smoothness of acceleration, the leather- for the price is unreal. :)

I owned both and now just have the LS. The Cadillac was quicker to 60MPH and that was it. If you ran both on a Road Course like Elkhart Lake the Cadillac would probably be lying upside down on the sire of the track if it tried to keep up with thw LINCOLN.
I have that oil leak and the mis fire you mentioned. Tell me about the easy fix.
Thanks,
Dan

Ok maybe easy isn't the best word to use what I should have said is its not a big deal if you catch it on time (before it shorts out the coil packs) though it seemed pretty easy for my dealership to fix since they only had the car for a day but I guess they've had a lot of practice. Sorry if I got your hopes up.

I have BOTH

OK. I Drive my 02 LS8, my wifey, the other(sts) 01. Even my wife can jump to 60 in her's, however, my LS have been through the basic stages of upgrades and I eat that sts alive. The Ls is more sexy looking, more appealing, way smoother and don't mention handling. The only thing is, if you plan to have a lot of people in the car, or maybe kids, the LS isn't your typical Full size family car. Power, Luxury, Respect and Control. To my, that's my LS. After 03, you get more for your money, but just hate the rear end of the newer version, LS that is.

Wow you can Beat a STS with a LS. I was planning on getting the STS but Now I have to look more into LS.

It's not stock either

Don't get me wrong... My LS insn't stock, plus, it's my wife driving.;)
The STS is not a civic, you know...

i thought the sts was cadillacs ultimate luxary vehicle. the deville was the biggest and cts was the small sporty luxary model. much like the continental is lincolns luxary town car is the biggest and ls is the sporty model. i think you all are comparing vehicles that cant fairly be compared.

What does a V8 Ls run? Took my 98 STS to the track last year and it ran a 14.94 at 94.24 mph. Lots of 4's there. Any how I was just wondering if the LS is faster. Also my old boss had a 2000 LS with the V8 and I always spanked his a**.
