ls8 tear down broken secondary chain bent valves

just tore my 2001 lincoln down only has 120,000 miles and the secondary chain broke and bent #4 cylinder valves ,my question is i found a guy on ebay that sales the valves can they just be put in and go or do i have to take the head to machine shop

Yikes!!! Looks like those might be the exhaust valve and yeah, they piston slammed hard man!
Don't know what to tell ya ... I'd be in the house crying in the fetal position, seriously!

Just noticed the cam caps laying around ... did you not bother to take note of the ordering they came out, including the bolts and such.
really should have made proper notations on how the cams came out, they are worn in and need to go back in the same way they came out.
if you mix them up and don't tighten them back down to spec in the right order, there will be further troubles down the road with the cams.
They should be labeled if I'm not mistaken.

I also do see that you have them laying in a row, so hopefully that will go back in the same way it came out.

but yeah, the bend/damaged valves are your biggest problems. I don't think the head is damaged though.

I'd inspect pistons for damage, and if you only need valves, get them from christophersforeigncarparts.com. I just ordered my secondary timing chain from him, though I got my ls to the shop before it broke completely.

You're going to have to separate the head to get in there no ?

Isn't a bad chain or guide the reason why the valve may have gotten bent in the first place? Should he be looking at the timing chains too?

seeing as you look mechanically inclined by you tackling this you should be able to change the valves yourself, but you need to lap them in with lapping compound so they seat properly, used to see the Audi techs do it all the time when this would happen, if you don't feel comtortable doing so them machine shop the head. Also check for excessive warpage while it is off.

Already bought a timing chain set from chris off ebay waiting on my valves now from him great guy . Not familiar with lapping compound what is it

Check out some vids on youtube on valve lapping...it is a needed step.

Was anytime I did a valve job.

Reminds me I need to get the valve grinder bearing fixed...I have a Kohler that I need to bore out and do a valve job on soon.
