So one day he comes by and grabs my Cobra to take to work. Gave her a ride in it. She has never opened her mouth since. He said when he hit the on ramp, he nailed it in 2nd gear and the car started fish tailing and hopping. Let off, lobbed it into 3rd, nailed it again. Tires broke loose again, feathered the throttle and eased back into it. When he whacked it into 4th gear, it was pulling so hard she was squeezing the arm rests off the car. Scared the living crap out of her. And believe me...I'm no where near the quickest Cobra around...not even close. Mine's only an 11 second car.

The Acura TL isn't exactly in the LS class. Its smaller and lighter. The LS stacks up pretty decent speed wise with cars in its class actually. As new cars come out the bar is being raised quickly. The TL in 2000 was quite a bit slower than the newer ones.DLS8K said:Don't get me wrong.......but why do the majority of people think the LS is fast? Considering what the car is, it is woefully underpowered. That isn't to say the LS isn't quick, but to go out there and talk about how you beat a Scion, or a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, or any other car for that matter is a bit overboard.
The LS will get beat by nearly every car in its segment. The LS will also get beat by many other cars not in its segment. Where the LS does perform is on a curvy road.......not a straight-line run.
I'm glad someone agreed with me on here. I loved the LS because of the car's dynamics........and if like most people on here that picked their car up used, than they got a pretty good deal on that. But, what I don't like is when people come on here saying they raced ricers or cars that are faster than the LS and beat them......somehow indicating that their car outperformed the other car when in reality, it was probably the automatic transmission outperforming the manual transmission due to driver error. Granted, a win is a win.......but it is the principle behind it.TheRebel said:AMEN to that, but even on curvy roads there are cars that can take the LS, but I don't know how many of those have AC seats
No, I think most people are just pointing out the fact that when a car is only a few tenths quicker, driver error plays a important part in a race. So if a car is capable of a 14.5 1/4 but the driver bogs it or looses traction even a little, than a 15.0 1/4 car can take a lead, at least for a while. Many street races or grudge matches don't have trees and timing equipment to show the truely faster car.DLS8K said:I'm glad someone agreed with me on here. So, by this logic, you would say that if you raced an automatic v-6 against a manual v-6 and the automatic won, than the other car was obviously slower.........or at least that is what I am sensing most on this forum who post things such as this.
Scions are fast? guess I"m stupid. GTPs? which ones are much faster than the LS if at all?DLS8K said:Don't get me wrong.......but why do the majority of people think the LS is fast? I think thats been a point i have made numerous times. But never mind, i am just this forums dickhead. Nice to see someone else feel the same way.DLS8K said:Don't get me wrong.......but why do the majority of people think the LS is fast? Considering what the car is, it is woefully underpowered. That is my point..........NONE of these cars are fast.02LSE96LSC91SE84TC said:I'm confused. You call the LS slow by naming cars that aren't any faster or only a few tenths faster.
I'm not claiming the LS to be a frickin speed machine, but comparing it to something that is no faster, than calling it slow doesn't make sense.
We should hang out.....Fla02LS said:I think thats been a point i have made numerous times. But never mind, i am just this forums dickhead. Nice to see someone else feel the same way.
Ohh, well to the people with the slower car, its fast. A fast car is easily compared to a having alot of money. To the people with less, I have alot. To the people with more, I have little. I guess it comes down to who your comparing yourself to.DLS8K said:That is my point..........NONE of these cars are fast.
I have no problems with not owning a fast car.......it is quick enough for what I use my car for. I have driven some fast cars.......an 02 Porche 911 Turbo, a 2005 Dodge Viper, a Mercedes-Benz AMG S65, a brand new Audi RS-4. Being a car salesman has its perks when the boss is out of town.02LSE96LSC91SE84TC said:Ohh, well to the people with the slower car, its fast. A fast car is easily compared to a having alot of money. Like Chevy Chase said when asked "How do you compare yourself to other golfers" looking down on Ted Knight "by height".
Get in where you fit in.
I'm not going to go into "its my car I'll do what I want" but seriously, no ones hanging 3' wings on there car and doing race strips. The LS is actually pretty fun to race, it sticks pretty damg good and is faster than what most people think. I raced a early SHO last time out, it was the closest race I had at the track, it was alot of fun. I don't knock the people with 3 TVs in there car, that don't make sense to me.DLS8K said:I have no problems with not owning a fast car.......it is quick enough for what I use my car for. Trust me though......I agree with your comments in this post though. It's all relative to the person as to how they feel about their car. You want to know what my 1st car was? It was a 1987 Mustang LX hatchback with a 2.3 liter in it. That car was slow.......... and I knew it.
