i have some of this lucas octane booster laying around. i picked it up for pennies on clearance <its normally much more> and figured i would save it for a rainy day.

gas in my neck of the woods has dropped significantly but there is a hidden price increase on premium fuel <usually 93octane here>... generally the sign at the station lists the regular 87 price, then the pump will say .10 extra for 89 and .20 extra for 93... now 93oct is showing up as .40 extra.

has anyone run this stuff? i will probably try it with 87octane, but i might give it a go with 85octane if i see it cheap

I have not tried Lucas, but in general, read the label carefully.

Usually a bottle of Octane booster only boosts octane a tiny amount. You would typically require several bottles if you are trying to up the octane of a full tank to premium level.

I found this out way back when I tried some to boost octane for my F250 which guzzled gas and needed 92 when I was towing. I had hoped a bottle of octane boost(104+ I think?) in a tank would do the trick, but not. Then I read the lable and then I understood, it was cheaper to buy the octane required than to boost it to premium.

Of course if you got it cheap enough it may be worth it, until you run out.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Agree. I believe the lucas booster only raises is like 1-2 actual octane points. Cheaper to just buy premium.

i have about 60 miles on my 2005 v6 with the following concoction:
1 gal of fresh 93oct <what was left in the tank>
1 full bottle of the lucas product <it treats 25 gal but it was cold as fck and i forgot abt that and dumped it all in>
2 gal of year old 93 oct <no indications it had gone bad>
rest of the tank was filled with cheap 87 oct <pump said 10%ethanol>

no noticeable difference btwn this concoction and my normal <93 only>. no way for me to know mpg at the moment, but i do know that it would normally drive and shift weird with that much 87oct in it, but it is behaving normally, as if 93 or 92 were in it.

Might have to perform another drive cycle to see improved results jrand :p

littlerig.. you would probably waste gas running a d.cycle alone.. get back to studying that shop manual bubbie
i would have guessed that even you would have known that after a yr or so of reading..

lol, bubbie

still funny this kid!

FORD VEHICLE COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES

BATTERY OR BATTERY CABLE(S)

Any time the battery is disconnected, the
Keep Alive Memory (KAM) is erased. This
means that any learned values that the
PCM has stored for adaptive systems such
as idle and fuel trim will have to be
relearned in order to achieve optimum
driveability and vehicle performance. This
can be achieved by performing the idle
relearn first, and then driving the vehicle as
you normally would
on a test drive, making
sure that everything is operating properly.

Now that's a drive cycle!!!!!!

yall should just form a support group instead of posting senseless words after every other one of my posts ...
you could call it 'i wasted time and money replacing shift solenoids for no reason 10 yrs ago and im still crying about it and telling other people to do it so i dont feel so bad about my own poor and hasty decision' or 'i pretend to block jrand but i secretly unblock him all the time'
ive got plenty more but littlerig will cry 'mod'...

Spoken like a true 12yr old. Really good at name calling you are! That's about it though, you don't even own an LS is my take on it.

senseless words? couldn't possibly making reference to " and then driving the vehicle as you normally would"

ANYHOW ... same ol' same ol' with Junior Tech here! Will never change his mind on "drive cycle".

Thing that kills me the most is where you seem to think that all can be solved by doing your "must follow drive cycle relearn process correctly",
KAM settings are relearned and then you seem to think it stays like that forever, as it never relearns/adjust to how it's being driven after that.

Recall the important word "adaptive" ...
probably not considering you focus more on how to belittle others rather then putting up some good old facts on a dumb debate. (again)

I do really like arguing with you though, mostly because I don't have any littlerigs of my own, so you at least serve purpose for some good laughs!

who the fck are you talking to in this thread? first person to mention a d.cycle here was you... read thread title: "lucas octane booster"
search for 'drive cycle': first hit is YOU

Hahaha ...

Does your Mom know you are adding adjectives to her Lincoln?
Is this how you get to drive an LS, by adding snake oil to her tank
and convincing her it needs yet another drivecycle?

I've had my fun, you can talk to yourself now ... Punk!

punk?
fun?
drivecycle?
snake oil?
adjectives?
mom?
hahaha?

i dunno what worse, the fact that youre trying to be funny and are losing miserably OR the fact that you are somehow convinced that its a great honor to drive an outdated, 15 yr old entry level luxury car...

and what are you trying to do opening up with 'hahaha'? is that the 'internet forum equivalent' of a 'laugh track' on a sitcom?? your attempt at comedy is horrid. that last post is about as bad as that 'grill' guy from missouri.. surely you can do better than that littlerig

and fwiw, since you did <almost> get back on topic with the 'snake oil' comment, the lucas octane booster is working a lot better than i thought it would. it was very cold this morning and i would have had a weird idle with as much 87 octane as there is currently in the tank based on the handful of times i have actually put it in. no issues with the lucas. i im only 25% of the way thru the tank, but i would recommend it if you find it on sale <critical> AND your local stations are gouging for 92/93 octane but not 87 octane <which has led me to finally try it>

final word:
i ran thru about 7 gallons with the concoction noted in my post above and then topped it off with 7 gallons of 87octane. i then ran thru that whole tank and replenished with a full tank of 93 octane. no functional issues to report. i believe the concoctions as noted must have worked out relatively close to the 93octane the car is used to running due to the lack of issues. the gas mileage for the first 7 gallons calculated out to the 'middle of the road' on my normal mpg range. after i topped it off and ran the whole tank it actually came out a bit higher than what i was expecting based on how i was driving. granted it was only one bottle, but i give it a thumbs up in a pinch. i am going to throw one in the trunk in case i run into the premium price gouging problem again, which i am sure i will based on what i am seeing on gasbuddy.com.

i may also do some research on 'turbo 108 octane booster'. if you buy the correct amounts of either product and use the advance auto coupons to get ~40% off <or more> it can actually work out economically even with premium fuel being at the standard price points <.20 more than 87oct> in my locale. i would guess the long term effects of running it combined with 87 octane are generally a question mark and a crapshoot though.
