I stopped by Macco Saturday to get a quote on color matching my chrome.

$75 for grille and front bumper
$75 for plate surround and rear bumper
$25 for eyelids

I know maaco is sketchy but these prices are great.
What do you guys think?

Eeh prices seem about right for the work required. Maybe take everything apart yourself and save even more money??

If you plan on selling the car soon, maybe. And that is still a very sketchy maybe. Past selling it, hell no to Maaco.

Go to an independent shop that uses ppg paint. I had my bumpers redone and the match was close and no peeling.

with paint, you definitely get what you pay for.

i would say that if really need something painted, and dont have a lot of extra money, then some paint is better than no paint (like if your bumper is flaking or your new bumper isnt painted)
but i would definitely look into having a good shop quote you, maybe with removing everything your self to save a few bucks. it will look ten times better and last twenty time longer.

there is no way a company can charge you $75 and spend the kind of time it takes for a good pint job to come out right, they are either cutting time on prep (one of the most important things) and painting, or in the materials, hell probably both.

also a little hard to tell from your avatar, but if you have the ivory with pearl, the paint alone should cost more than those prices, and is going to be way harder to get to look right with the rest of the car.

i think i've heard enough negative comments about maaco from you guys and other sites a search has lead me to. I'll try some local shops in the future.

Yes i have the Ivory parchment pearl tricoat and i know it would cost me over $100 just to order a kit from paintscratch.com and rattle can it myself. I've never done it before so i'm hesitant to experiment on my car.

Thanks for the help again.

Using Maaco to paint your car is like using some additive in your engine to fix a blown head gasket; it may help for a little while but you're going to be worse off down the road than if you hadn't done it at all.

If you want a pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses, and your toll money stolen then definately go-Maaco! ....also the paint job sucked. .....unless you want paint on your windows.....and covering the vin sticker.

175 for the job? They're going to make a 165 profit off you where a paint shop would probably charge about 300 bucks and make about a 75 dollar profit. The non-profit part of the money would go to paint, supplies and labor. Personally, I'd spend the extra and have a paint shop do the work as opposed to MAACO, who is the anagram lover's AAMCO. MAACO is the master of the 40/40 paint job you see on the cheap lots, where it looks really good when you pass at 40MPH from 40 feet away.

Go to a few local shops and get a quote. Tell them your paying cash and do not require a reciept. Easy money off the books for them. Cash talks.:)

If your going to use maaco, inspect the work thoroughly when done cause they have a tendency to try to BS a job. However i got some rust and paint work done there and they did a good job"well the second time". I'd say if they do it right and you are diligent about washing and waxing or chrome polishing you should be just fine.

If your going to have all the chrome painted, get the lower side rockers, rear valance, and front bottom trim piece done as well.:D

There's a reason the motto for the store is "uh oh... F*ck Maaco."

Or something like that.

I got my rear surround painted for $100 from a local shop that supposedly did good work. Started to peel after about 10 months. Just an FYI: some shops do not offer a warranty when painting over chrome.

Maaco, AAMCO, Earl Scheib, Pep Boys, Jiffy Lube...... All the same to me. Avoid at all costs!

I think each Maaco is a franchise; independently owned/operated. I had my car and truck painted at my local Maaco over 6 years ago b/c i didn't want to spend more on the paint job than the vehicles were worth.....no complaints on either one thus far

Luk3, the front Grille, not that hard to come by another one at the scrappers,
how about trying your own hand at it on just that part before you proceed to the rest.
If it goes bad you can pick up that style of grille easily again. And there are plenty of articles on here about how to go about it.
