Mach 1 chin spoiler

Dragondesign-Thanks for the great how to. I have my chin spoiler waiting in the living room! Should get ti it within the next week!
 
As soon as the sun comes up I'll go out and get some epoxy to finish the ends off properly then I'll snap a bunch of pictures. One of the lovely benefits of living in Canada in winter is that it's dark when I go to work in the morning, and the sun has already set when I get home at night, so the weekend is my only chance for good pictures. The flash on the camera in the dark just isn't the same...
 
Yeah I know, I know still no pics. I should have snapped them the very first night. Problem is that it's dark when I go to work and dark when I come home (thank you very much daylight savings time) and I really don't think it'll look good with the flash. Since tomorrow is saturday I'll get up early and do it. It was supposed to happen last weekend but I went skiing instead. The only thing I have left to do is see if the epoxy will hold on the end pieces. That is the only part that looks different from the other pictures on here because my car is also charcoal. Matter of fact, I'll go snap some right now and see how they turn out in the dark, so hold tight.
 
Ok if this worked, here are the pictures in the dark. Note that #1 my car is filthy right now and #2 my headlight eyebrows aren't' white, they are a bit reflective, so with the flash on the camera they end up looking photoshopped haha.

FYI the ground clearance on stock suspension with stock 16" rims is anywhere between 6 1/4" to 6 3/4"

Tomorrow when I epoxy the ends I'll take better pictures and I'll post them larger if required.

i was waiting to get mine up on a lift cuz apparently it's much harder to get the stock piece off on an 03+, but my LS is, ahem, temporarily out of service
 
What is the vertical heigth of this piece ? ie: How far does it hang down from the existing body work ?

I would think about putting one on my car but I too would not paint it.
I need to see some more pictures first.

Dragon - I'm not sure I understand what your were doing with the Super glue and epoxy. Did you leave the piece extra long at the wheel well openings and then just bent the extra lenght to give the peice a deeper look ?

I understand the concept for the fold at the wheel well opening. You want it to look closed off, like a finished piece. I would like to ask if you thought about placing the spoiler in between the lower black plastic and the bumber, right under the opeing for the lower grill? I was looking at this mod also, but I have Eibach's on now and it sits lower than stock. I have already rub the lower black chin a couple of times and that that I'm very careful going up and down driveways and dips. OPPS!! I forgot to give you the big thumbs up for the doing this it looks great !!!!!!

I thought about that too, Leo. I was thinking of removing the stock piece and installing the spoiler in it's place.
 
Has anyone installed one of these on a 2006 ?
The 06 front end has two little recesses, looking like a rotor cooling duct inlet.
There would be less support near the corners because of these recesses.

Also - How tall is this piece ?
 
I'll have to measure the piece next time i'm outside, but from what I remember it's about 3 1/2" deep at the widest part. It gets narrower towards the wheels though.

And yes you're right, with the end piece I was trying to leave it longer so that it would give the end a finished look. I went to try to epoxy it the other day and it just didn't look quite right so I ended up cutting those extra ends off. It doesn't look as bad as I thought it would, you just need to cut the ends very cleanly. I'm out of town right now and forgot my camera, but I'll post pictures soon.

I don't know how easy it would be to take that factory lip piece off and install this in its place. Because the factory bottom piece is rounded over it gives a nice joint between the new valence and the factory bumper, I don't know what the finish would be like on the other, but if someone tries it, let us know. I haven't scraped this new piece on anything yet that I know of, but it is quite flexible - it's meant to give the front a lower look without you having to worry about wrecking it. All things considered its a pretty cheap modification and easy to install another if this one gets ripped off, so I wouldn't worry about ground clearance. All in all this is deffinately my favorite appearance mod so far. It gives the front end a way more agressive look but still doesn't look out of place on a luxury car.
 
I have one question and concern. Since you have had it on what has been the fastest you have gone? How strong are the little plastic pins to hold it due to its design? I'd hate to do a 90 mph run on the highway and have that thing come ripping off.
 
Its been a LONG time since I have posted and I am impressed with this mod. Dragon is your LS lowered?
 
I put mine on yesterday-(thanks dragon for the great how to!) I went 100 mph to see how it held up and it is still perfect. The clips are very sturdy but you could add screws or cables ties if you wanted to. I do not think you will need them if you drill the correct size hole for the clip

Is your car lowered wioth any of aftermarket spring kits? And does it rub or hit driveways?

I will get pics up asap. I have a black ls. not Lowered yet. Has scrubbed once in a parking lot, but i was going too fast over a bump- i forgot i had just put a lower piece in the front. Have not scrubbed since. You should be fine if you pay attention. With springs it could be a different story. I live in Mississippi and we have pretty bad roads. But this spoiler is very flexible and a pretty easy install-i still need to clean up and smooth out the edges though.
 
Appreciate all the info posted here, seriously this mod is very cool and now we have both a source and some guide info on the install.

If we could get a shot of one on a light colored car we'd not only see it with some color variety but also see the spoiler more clearly.

I plan to do this to my cashmere car.....and not to paint it either. I am not a fan of mono tone, and think that some contrast on a car is needed. If painted, the first time it gets tweaked on a low driveway entry or hit by a rock it would be toast. Stuff on the car that low gets the hell beat out of it constantly.....black would be perfectly appropriate for this part......
 
Well I just spent 3 days in the snow on holidays and after going through snow banks and stuff the piece is still on strongly. It hit a couple times on snow banks and seems to be fine because it is flexible, but that isn't to say you couldn't rip it right off if you popped over a big curb or something, you still have to be more careful driving it, but you'll get used to it, deffinately worthwhile. On the way home I think the fastest I went was 175 (km/h, not miles) and it didn't move, I don't think its a problem. I'll post more pictures after I wash my car, but we've all seen how it looks on a dark car, a light one would be interesting. I think it'll still look really nice because of the black in the grille. I don't think I would paint it, too tough to paint a flexible piece and have it stick right, but it is possible.

That looks real clean. I dont like the LSE look I drive a 2000 sport package in the silver with flat black yah know. So that keeps it looking cleancut and sporty. You think you can app a rear air diffuser on there to match as well, Ive been thinking about other bodyparts that might fit but its kinda hard to get messurements when your so amature like me. I dont wanna bite but I think Ill try that with my idea on cutting out the bumper grill and adding long narrow foglights or something in that big gap it leaves, yah......
 
I work in a ford dealership in sounthern ontario, we usually keep these in stock, so if your near i can get ya deal on em.
