Marijuana poll/ opinions

I am curious to see what various opinions we have on this site about the decriminalization or legalization of pot. For the poll I'll have three options
1)leave it as it is
2)decriminalization (fines instead of jail time)
3)legalization (sold in stores/gov can tax)
thanks for the feedback

I'm gonna save my opinions for a little while and just see what everyone else thinks.

Let's see..... The upstanding citizen in me would vote to keep the law as it is. However, I guess I've never been accused of being all that upstanding. :)

I don't see why the government can't make pot legal and tax the heck out of it. I imagine the revenue generated from making it legal would pay off the national debt in no time! Also, it seems to me that pot isn't any more/less harmful than liquor. We're allowed to choose whether or not we drink. We're allowed to smoke cigarettes, and we know what those do to you.

I concur. Tax it just like cigarettes and alcohol.

Better yet. Regulate it and create a National Sales Tax and you'll take the criminal element right out of it.
 
Yeah I agree. I did a paper about the medical uses of marijuana, and it's amazing how great it is for some people. Some people with aids, cancer, etc. swear that it is the one and only thing that makes them feel better. Plus I don't think using it is wrong, but there's no way the conservative lawmakers in Washington will let legalization happen.

for anyone who is thinking of becoming a Medical Marijuana person go get the note from the DR., but don't Register with state.

Oh oh there is one of the bad words.... I wish Joey would sensor the C and the L word! Because they are the worse words used on this site. I haven't seen andy bigger fights on this site as the fights between the C and the L.
 
In my mind, decriminalization simply means that the authorities would look the other way. This would work great with an NST because it wouldn't matter where you got your money or how you spent it.

Legalization would mean enacting laws and regulations that would regulate content and would have to set up a structure to collect taxes.

On the Conservative side - if it was leagalized and regulated we could reduce the drug money going to help fund terrorist and instead use the tax money to help homeland security!

Wouldn't that be the best of both worlds? What a thought provoking topic for the day. After having read the web page concerning the medical benefits (thanks for posting that, btw), one would assume that as a free thinking, compassionate nation we wouldn't hold back anything that could be of help to those that need it. (sigh)
 
Hi All

I believe the real reason marajuana is not legalized is because it comes from third world countries, if it were legalized it would give third world countries a source of foriegn revenue, then they would no longer be third world countries and we can't have that now can we? They might also make us (America and Europe) pay a decent price for thier oil, diamonds, gold, aluminum, tungsten, coffee, bananas,iron and a hundred other comodities that we pay a pitance for.

The majority of the marijuana in the us comes from mexico. Not what i really consider a 3rd world country. If legalized it would enter our capitalist market and would only be a matter of time until consumers were demanding higher quality....something 3rd world countries can hardly produce. In my best guess it would be grown by very large american companies...probably like marlboro etc....in whatever country the climate is best, possibly even in America.

Decriminalization would take away jail time and implement fines(in theory) Legalization would be like buying it in stores (with tax I'm sure).

I'm curious to read some of the opinions of those who voted to leave it as it is. As of this post there were 6 for leave it 3 decrim and 6 legalize.....but none of the posts were to leave it. I assume that was because all the other posts were making sense. I've done more than my fair share of research on the topic.....and the most logical answer I've come up with for it still being illegal is that our gov. isn't making any $ off it........sadly the bottom line of almost all issues is the bottom line.

Ive thought about making it so anytime someone types in "conservative" the post would instead say "right wing nut job"
 
Marijuana is illigal not because of taxes or money, it is because of precident. By that I mean that it was once deamed as bad as cocaine, and the fact that today is considered a lesser narcotic is something that many politicians fight hard against... they want to see it outlawed even more. Marijuana, although containing more tar than nicotine, is actually less harful in the long run because weed contains MUCH fewer toxic substances (arcenic, carbon monoxide, radium-226, etc.), and is actually proving to have cancer-preventative qualities when consumed orally (brownies, etc.). Lets compare weed with another "drug" that the government deems legal:

1)
Alcohol: Every year thousands of people die from alcohol poisening or asphixiation of their own vomit directly caused by alcohol consumption.

THC (Weed): There has never been an overdoes or death directly caused by smoke inhalation of cannibus, and there never will be.

2)
Alcohol: Driving is impared but alcohol also effects judgement in a way that temps people do feel superior or "invincible." Alcohol also causes extreme loss of coordination and reaction time.

THC: Driving is impared also, however, judgement is not impared, actually the consiquences of an accident loom high (no pun intended) on cannibus smokers, and the majority of "high" individuals drive slower and more cautiously than they would sober.

3)
Alcohol: The US makes TONS of money off of this and they love it!

THC: The Government themselves discovered that cannibus is the fourth largest cash crop in the US, and would be first by far if the DEA didn't seaze about 30% of all marijuana grown nationally every year.


The bottom line is that marijuana is not bad, not bad all. As long as the average age of our Congressman is above 60, we can kiss any kind of fair legislation over this topic good-bye, its nice to know we have so many open minded people on these forums, but our opinion and the opinion of Americans everywhere means absolutely ball-sack to the POS people that run our country (I don't think they are all bad, just the VAST majority, and any good ones probably hop on the band wagon anyway).
 
We should at least use hemp. Talk about a wonder crop. I say legalize marijuana too. Legal or not, I still smoke it all the time. Man, I really want to visit Amsterdam. I would have tons of fun.

This effect of THC is also know as PARANOIA...

I knew a dude who used to drive like a maniac in his Cobra...
Whenever he was stoned, he'd cruise by at 5 under speed limit. LMAO!

I see. So, following your scenario, in order to pay off our national debt, we need to encourage people, including our children, if necessary, to SMOKE MORE MARIJUANA! After all, it's for a good cause. And anyone who doesn't smoke it isn't "paying their fair share" of the national debt retirement, right?

Some kid in my speech class for his semester test speech had this topic for legalizating of weed and said everything yall said. But it is true though on the facts weed is harmless almost. Its funny as hell watching people who are stoned its entertainment.

ALMOST harmless? Isn't that like being a little bit pregnant? You sound like a pot-head yourself with that twisted logic.
 
Marijuana is definetly less harmful than alcohol. It is ridiculous what the federal government is doing now days.

I really hate to say this but to get any real attention to this issue they need to put sick, dying cancer and AIDS patients in jail for posession of small amounts of marijuana. Preferably relatives of celebrities. That way the media will shed light on the situation and show just how unfair it is to lock up sick and dying people for smoking a little weed.

Whats the big deal with weed anyways Canada has pretty much decriminalized and their country is still here. Politicians here just don't want to be labeled as drug friendly even if they are.
