Hi all. First post..for a friend.

He has a VII that has developed a shifting issue. It started several weeks ago. He put in a bottle of Lucas..most of the issue went away, until this morning. While driving, it did not want to shift until around 4000 rpm and still would not go into OD at speed. He would run at around 3000 rpm driving normal highway speeds. A friend at work suggested the TPS, as this had happened before on his GM, wouldn't shift into OD. We are just trying to narrow the search down. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

tps? maybe. but i don't think the mark vii has a computer controlled trans. its just an aod isnt it? so its controlled by the throttle valve cable and a governor in the trans itself.
is the tv cable loose? (btw, a loose or unhooked tv cable will eat an AOD alive) its another cable up around the throttle cable somewhere i think.
had one come loose on a 69 cougar. but as soon as i started moving, it started shifting.

check under the hood to make sure its hooked up, and then under the car to make sure its hooked to the trans.

Thanks.
Another guy looked at it. He said there are three cables hooked to the throttle body linkage. One should be accell. cable, two should be cruise cable. Third a kickdown cable?? What is the tech name for it?

i don't think AODs have a kickdown cable. i think that's the tv cable. but if its connected, that's probably not it.

also. AODs have a pretty weak overdrive band. it may just be time for a rebuild.
how many miles on the trans?

Not sure on the mileage. Guy said there were three....I didn't see it. He did say one was sticky and didn't want to return after the throttle was released. Prob. it. I would think it could be bought at most auto shops.
Thanks

It is probably the plastic bushing...TV bushing I think. Head over to thelincolnmarkviiclub.org and they will get you sorted out. Stop driving it until you are sure of what the issue is.

I was told that the cable will not retract now that it was pulled out a bit trying to trouble shoot it. It won't return like the throttle cable does. It seems to be stuck now.
So after work, the problem got alot worse. It would not shift to second at all, stuck in first. This is after the cable being pulled out and froze up and wouldn't return.

Would this bushing have anything to do with this? What makes that cable return? Seems like it would be some kind of spring return. Either way, the car is down now. Looked around for a TV cable, cannot find one!! Anybody have a good place of purchase?...other than Ford.

My mk7 has been doing the same thing since I bought it. My EEC scanner indicated it had a bad shift solenoid. It's basically in hydrualic "limp mode". I actually can drive it like a stick. At ~25 mph I throw it in nuetral and the back into "d" and it goes to second. Repeat around 45 and there's third. To get OD the trans HAS to be warmed up (20 minutes or so of driving) and I punch it up to about 80 mph. Let out on the throttle a little bit and it'll drop into 4th. My TV cable was fine when I bought it, but it did end up falling out and almost cuased an epic accident when my throttle got stuck wide open pulling out of napa. A little silicone and a cotterpin around the top and it's back to it's same $hitty shifting self lol.
