Im relatively new to the lincoln world, and am going to pick up my first mark viii tomorrow. i had heard that the "premium" jbl audio system just seemed lacking in power, and was wondering if anyone had any recomendations for possible upgrades. head unit? speakers? any feedback is welcome. Thanks.

- additional note, its a 1998 LSC.

any way have fun.
secondly id listen to what it sounds like before you made any decisions i do not believe it to be "lacking " in any way but if you want to change it out i would suggest only pioneer or kenwood stuff.
Eric

If anyone feels this system is lacking in power they need to do two things; 1) make sure their hearing aid has fresh batteries, 2) check the recording level of the sound source. I've definintely noticed sound level differences between different CD's and cassette's. A subwoofer with an amp can help out almost any sound system, it doesn't need to be something that will make your car sound like a tin can getting kicked down the street to make a difference in the quality of the sound.

The system is actually good. If you want to get rid of the head unti, there are many aftermarkets to choose from. You could go low-end Alpine and get an MP3 playback for under $125 now. Or you could go high-end with Eclispe (like I have in mine).

The speakers and amp are good. I agree the head unit isn't exactly something you hook up at a heavy metal concert, but leave the rest of the system alone, add an alpine/ Eclipse deck, and definately add a subwoofer.

i just have a kenwood head unit, running the stock speekers off of it. i just bypassed the factory amp. plus i have a kenwood amp ( 800 w ) power two tens. not alot but sounds pretty good for what i paid for it. i bypassed the factory amps cuz one chanel was gone and the rest where folowing. i only got a deck cuz the old one stoped working. the the sound sysytem sounds good but it won't last very long. my 0.02 cents!

In regards to installing a new head unit in my 98 Mark VIII LSC, does anyone have a wiring diagram for the stock head unit, i.e. what wire does what?? I have a nice Alpine head unit that I want to put in but can't find an adapter that will work, so I figure I'll just wire it in myself...

my 2 and only 2 recommendations are eclipse and` infinity for the speakers and h/u. I am also hooked on mmats subs.

when it comes to headunit- pioneer premier..... subs- audio bahns.... amp- memphis (expensive, but very nise)... use that combination and you'll be just fine lol

What are the sizes of the speakers in the door and in the back?
Factory they were 5x7's I believe (lol got rid of them first thing when I got the car)

I prefer JVC decks, I never use the amp in a deck anyways, so main concern I have is how well the cd player itself works, and for reading scratched disks cd/rw media ive found jvc owns. I can scratch a burned cd like crazy and it will still play 99% of the time unless its gouged deep. Burned cd's seem to scratch very easy too so important to me.

Subs I like Rockford Fosgate,MTX, Kicker ... really there are lots of good choices on subwoofers out there.

Amps im pretty set on Rockford Fosgate, but thats just me.

I am using a Clarion Pro Audio system with Sirius Satellite Radio and a clarion 6 disc CD changer. When I am playing the radio, it seems to fade from the left to the right. sometimes I can't hear anything out of the drivers side. Then I can. But when I play a CD, I hear sound all around and it sounds great. Has anyone ever heard of this? What in the heck is going on?

I also went with the Eclipse head unit and LOVE it. I'm looking around for a nice set of 10's and possibly a Eclipse amp. I'm going to leave the speakers along for right now, but if needed which I doubt I will, I'll add a nice component system.

I use one JL Audio 10W6v2 in a vented box powered by a JL 500/1 amp. They SLAM!

The way yall should go in my opinion is a Alpine head unit with eclipse point source speakes or Type-X Components then probly a MTX or Alpine amp and finish it off with some Type-X 12s. Other wise Alpine is the way to go.

Mine does the same thing. I'm going to take it to a car audio shop and have them check the wiring. I think my AM antenna's disconnected too.

speakers all around are 5x7 components, if you just replace the 5x7 unit and the tweeter is actually blown, youll go nuts wondering why you just blew the speaker you bought.

the stock system is honestly fine, but what fun is keeping stuff stock? mine has gone through 3 sets so far (infinity's, pioneers, and most recently alpine type r's) and now finally jl components. vr out back and xr in front (6.5 two way). btw im new here too.

Everything in mine is stock except I have two Alpine type e 12" subwoofers in a sealed box and a 1200 watt Profile amp (cheap amp, but has worked great for me)

I'm redoing my speakers this weekend. I need some ideas from some people who changed out the JBL system. I want to get out the tweeters and put some aftermarkets in the door. What size tweeter will fit in the top. Also, I plan to run a 4 channel amp to run all speakers. I am installing a Clarion DXZ845MC.

I want to be able to hear chrisp clear music. I am not trying to rattle my rear licence plate. I just want a crisp clear sound. My factory amp is crapping out. Now I only hear sound in the rear speakers. It is a real pain in the ass. So I am installing this AMP as a replacement.

All audio enthusiasts, please give me some feedback.

Pretty much any size: 1 inch to 1-3/4, which are your basic standard sizes for any aftermarket tweeter. Use the flush mount adapters that come with the tweeters to install them. You may need to dremel out the old stock tweeters.

It depends on how crazy you want to get.
I'm currently running this HU http://www.eclipse-web.com/av/av8533.html

And absolutely LOVE it.

I just bought some seperates that completely suprised me with how good they sound for how cheap.
You probably haven't heard of them but they are RE Audio.I got their seperates through my boy who happens to work for them but they are only like 150 bucks or so.
And I am in the middle of building a box for their 12" XXX sub which is destroying most everything on the market right now.

For power I only use the best which in my eyes is Precision Power.
http://www.precisionpower.com/
I have their PC21400 which is 100 X 4 at 4 ohms or 200 X 4 at 2 ohms running all the mids and highs and their PC2350 which is 700 X 2 or 1400 X 1 at 4 ohms running the subs/or sub.

depends on what you want from the car, the more you end up spending the more hassle things become with any system. cheapest route is just putting in new 5x7's all around and powering them with your 4ch amp at first, then moving up to a better system. if you dont plan to rattle your plate, i wouldnt go with too high end audio stuff at first. i already took out my sub and my components still rattle the liscense plate (yes it's screwed in still).

in my eyes, the car was not built for extreme power in any way, so im building my system around that, just something clear with an unfortunatly high price tag.

Slap a piece of Dynamat Xtreme on the back; that should quiet her down...
