Mark VIII Craigslist finds!!!

Pretty sweet 94 for cheap..evergreen frost? on black interior..gotta be pretty rare.

Hi,

I am interested in this car. I would fly to Portland to buy. Sales guy says it has 125K miles on it and the air ride has problems. I found on the MarkVIII.org site the colors offered for each year of production but have not seen anywhere the production numbers with a certain paint or paint scheme. Is the China Blue color "rare" unsual? What records does Ford have which may or may not be available? Are there build sheets for the Mark VIII's? I am a newbie so pardon my ignorance. When I bought my BMW 850i which is contemporaneous with the Mark VIII, but significantly fewer in overall production numbers, I was asked to add the VIN to a registry and was made available a "build sheet" for the car. Hope my ignorance does not go unnoticed! Thanks for any comments.

Sales guy wants 2K for it but said he would sell it for 1500 given the fact that I was flying all the across country to buy it! It appears to have been on the lot for a while... thoughts?

Why do you want that specific car? If its been for sale for as long as you make it sound there's probably something wrong with it. If the car were more expensive I would tell you to pay someone local to look at it and drive it and have him give you his honest opinion about it..but for a car only worth $1500 its not worth it..nor is it worth the chance at wasting money on a plane ticket if it turns out to be a pile of sh*t. Honestly that car doesn't appear to be in the greatest shape and that's only from a picture..see it in person and even more flaws will show probably..and you haven't even gotten into the mchanics of the vehicle yet. If you're going to fly out west or down south to buy a car you might as well make it worth while and find something low mile and super clean and have the owner send lots of pics and talk to him over the phone asking him lots of questions about the car.

It's not a bad looking car, but to get a plane ticket from NC to Portland, then plan on driving it all the way home, IDK. This is just me, but personally, I'd feel kind of iffy about driving any 1994 model car that far having just bought it from a stranger and not being familiar with that particular car's history, upkeep, etc., unless, of course, you've got enough cash on hand to quickly handle any mechanical emergencies you might encounter. If you do really want the car, though, I agree with KeVIIIn- have someone on here who's local to the car check it out for you to be sure it's legit before you spend all the money coming out there to see it. I know the Charlotte area isn't particularly "target-rich" when it comes to finding nice Mark VIII's for cheap; I've been looking for a while too, but, personally, if I wanted to travel to find a nice car, I'd try looking a little closer. I've seen some good deals on Mark VIII's on the Atlanta craigslist, for one (haven't looked on there in a while, so IDK what's on there right now). I'm not trying to discourage you from that car, but trying to give you some ideas to hopefully help. Good luck!
 
I've seen that car last year...It looks just like mine. It's been for sale for ever. I agree with the two post above. It's not worth it!

That has to be one of the cleanest Marks I've seen in a long time. Worth $8,500 all day in my book.

I think by now you are tired of reading the same thing... FORGET IT. This car is not worth it. There are better Mark VIII's out there for the money. I wouldn't pay more than $1,300 for it & I certainly wouldn't fly to buy it.

Who's Mark is this? Any member on here? Also why did he get scared halfway through the project & decided to sell the car?
 
on the red car, the seat bolster does have some wear. prolly the worst part of the car. it does look clean.

Worst part for me is that it's tan but other than that, it is a fully loaded car. Got the optional Octastars, LSC, cell phone, CD changer, moonroof, and homelink.
 
The ivory car looks pretty clean, though probably with a ride height sensor issue. Own't know. Low miles, but I only have a two car garage that's already full of Mark VIIIs. :(

I'm always wary of buying older cars from places like this..they are 99% of the time bought from auction..and usually that's not a good thing. Get that car outside in the sunlight, and ill bet it doesn't look as flawless. Those prick used car salesmen try and hide every flaw by using that kind of lighting indoors and angle it just right so you can't see certain parts if the car. That price is a joke by the way..so its got 60k miles..ok? There's 60k mile marks all over for half that price. They are trying to utterly rip someone off.
