Try replacing the Manual Lever Position Sensor/Neutral Safety Switch.

i dont rightly know, but mine did the same thing once apon a time, i was told that the 3rd and 4th clutches were cooked somehow.

your clutches are burnt. same thing happened to me so i put a 5 speed in. looks like your in for a new tranny. good luck.

If you have been some 4-2 downshifts or manual upshifts, chances are the OWC (one-way clutch) is gone. It is the weakest link in the transmission and calls for a complete overhaul. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you have been driving the car like it has a stick in it, the no 3rd or 4th gear is ominous. Don't feel too bad. I toasted 2 trannies myself that way. Look for a used trans, '98 and up that have the new upgraded piece. It is called a mechanical diode. That is the major thing to have if you want to shift an automatic Ford 4R70W.

manually shifting your tranny will cook the diode? but everyone tells me it's the fastest way down the 1/4....

is it only 4-2 upshifts that are bad? what about 1-2 then 2-3?

Hey Thanks Guys, Im now out looking for a used 98 transmission. I still drive the car to School and around town, but the car still does't shift and can't go over 40mph,
