Mark VIII VS CTS V

I have seen several SHO's at the pic a part. That Yamaha engine has huge heads & fuel inj system on it. I don't know how true it is but a Ford Mechanic once told me that the Yamaha engine was origionally designed to turn 10,000 rpms but they couldn't keep accessory belts on it at those RPM's. I have raced stock SHO's before & wasn't impressed. Maybe a few mods & it would be different.

i cant verify the RPM but a stock SHO is a low 15 second car. quick for what it was and for its time but still not very fast.

It was a 15 second car in 1989!!!

They were faster than the Mustang GT stock vs stock.

I'm not sure about that. I raced a newer body style SHO Mid 90's I guess. I was in my 1983 Mustang GT at the time. It was all stock except for a set of headers & the taurus was not too far back but couldn't keep up.

still not getting my point, Im talking about 89's

The 89 SHO was the fastest out of the SHO's. It was a 14 second car.

I had a 95 SHO auto and back in the mid 90's it surprised a lot of people. Its a dog by todays standards.

the newer 1s are slower.

i agree, i did a alt on one of the newer "bubble" (98 or so body style) v8 sho's, so i had to test drive it to make sure all was good, and was disappointed (having drove a few of the v6 Yamaha sho's) didnt think the v8 sho was any faster than the 3.0 dohc v6

no that's faster than a stock gt from 89.

where at in springfield? I'm in pittfield.

Ford had some neat cars & the SHO was one of them. I like the odd balls like the 2.3 turbos myself, (Merkur, SVO, Turbo coupe, Mustang GT Turbo) I also had a thing for the SHO. I never liked the older body or that terrible bubble thing you guys are talking about. It's the one in the middle that I liked. Sort of the old body with the updated front & rear ends. Like the Gen 1 vs Gen 2 Marks.

I have owned 2 SVO's & 2 Turbo Coupes. Never got my hands on a SHO however.

Here's a pic.

i never owned a sho,but i was considering it for awhile and did a lot of reading on them

first off ,89's by far were the quick ones,0-60 equal to or better than a gt and above that they walked away.

i also read the same thing about the engine could easily turn 10k stock, but the belts and accessories (a/c,alternator/pumps) could not handle it,and ford wasnt going to spend extra 1000's of $ just to upgrade those components on a street car.

it was an awesome engine in 89,better than just about any other 6 cyl out there.

CTS-V huh? First of all that's not the average CTS, hell, Ford could have supercharged an exclusive version of the Mark VIII like they did the Jaguar XJR(370-400hp) if they had wanted to. DON'T EVEN SWEAT THAT JUST KNOW YOUR COMPETITION NEXT TIME. We also still have the Supercharged Saleen(over 400 hp) & the Mark9 if Ford ever decides to build the doggone thing! It should have anywhere from 360-400 hp is my guess. Oh, I used to own a '89 Taurus SHO too, it had 220hp & was a mean 5spd.
