I think my '00 LS V8 might be having a problem it. Is the mass air sensor something that I could change out myself? How invovled is it? How much would I be looking at in parts?

it's a 10min swap.

what makes you think that's your problem?

Quick

I had the filter apart and then put it back together. I had disconnected the MAF Sensor and forgot to reconnect it. Drove 2 drive cycles and then check engine light came on. I immediately reconnected the wires. but after 20 drive cycles still not off yet. I went to autozone and the code was low readings on the MAF sensor. Did I screw it up big time. what should I do next.

I took the filter apart to make a sketch so I could make an adapter for a cone filter.

Should be getting that assembled this weekend.

I dont beleive I could have fouled the sensor. All it was was disconnected for about ten minutes. could jiggling it around have damaged the sensor. :slam

my light was on and was told to unplug the battery for 30 min. and itll restet all the codes and remove the lgiht, if it comes back then u have a problem. my code wasnt that soo im not sure this is what u should do. just an idea though

Quick

I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and light did not turn out.

I will leave disconnected all night and see what happens.

Another question for you quick.

Has anyone taken out a fog light and routed the cold ram air into an enclosed box within the engine compartment? Might take some cutting but seems like it would work in theory.

my first setup used a closed in box around the air filter, except for a hole in the bottom, which a ran a tube from the lower grill up in to.

it worked fine - on a rainy day driving on the highway the filter would get a bit damp.

I switch to the hood scoop after that.

here's pics of the box and the lower grill I had a while back

Double check the electrical connection to make sure it's tight. Clean the connection and the MAF sensor itself with electrical cleaner. Make sure it's one that doesn't leave a residue.

they dropped it last year - low sales.

when I got mine there was a listing for LS8 00-02

I've got an email into them to see if they have any left or if any of their dealers have them. I'm curious what the pricing is on one. They claim 10-23 additional HP with it. You buy that?

I bought it with the hopes of more hp - years before the SCT flasher could tune the LS - so our only options was to buy things like this - were you reprogram the sensors to trick the stock computer.

don't bother getting one if you are running a SCT tune. if you get one it will throw your SCT tuning out (run rich) - and there should be a new tune created to use the inputs of the the new MAF - which defeats the purpose.

I haven't been running my SCT tune for about a month. I could never get a tune that would keep my car from knocking and pinging under certain loads. I didn't want to run the risk of causing engine damage so I switched back to the regular PCM code. I thought about the MAF since I can't get the SCT tune to work. Torrie and I have gone through about 15 tunes. Every tune didn't work.

well - this may work then - it's simply re-maps your fuel/air curve by 'lying' to the PCM. basically running you a little richer.

You may find that it will fix the lean condition in the tunes - maybe that's why I don't ping?

Reconnected the battery this morning and you know that check engine light, it was no longer lit, must need more than a few minutes to reset the code.

Thanks for the info :dancefool

nope - and you do not need one - we could never push past the stock.

with that said - I use a Granatelli MAF with a Cold Air tune -got a deal on it. not sure I would have paid retail for it.

I called Granatelli and they don't have the MAF's for the LS anymore so SOL. Does it have a part number on it? The girl I spoke with on the phone said, "Is the Firebird the same as the Thunderbird?" I just about busted out laughing at her. I'd like to call back and give them a part number if you have it.

some codes require to drive cycles and some require one so do not be suprised if it returns.

SHLTN:

In regards to the MAF... You can buy the entire air box for about the same price and it comes with the new maf. So if you want to mod you air box I would recommend buying the entire unit. IIRC the 02 model was better designed and is a direct replacement for you model year.

I think our gas sucks here. My car pinged a little today and my wife's has been doing it for a few weeks now where even she has noticed it. I have been getting 93 octane at the Exxon. Will try something different next time, I guess.

Have you been to the dyno to see what your A/F is?

02 Airbox part no is 3W4Z-9600-AA-2FC

I do not have the cost but iirc it was about the same maybe less than the MAF by itself. Check with 5 Star Ford or FPN.
