Anyone wanna make some money by helping me change Front left Knuckle sometime here in the next week or two?

I can either Drive to your house, and I'll pay you 50 bucks to help me or buy pizza and beer for the day.

or

You can come to my house (no garage) and I will do the same plus pay your gas here and back. (Winthrop)

Any takers...I just want someone whos done it before or whose mechanically inclined....

LMK

Thanks

Dave

im not that mechanically inclined but id help for free anyways

Well I can up the price to 100 bucks, maximum....

I do need to get this done, and since I already have the part I cannot find a place to fix it for me...

R Bones - thanks for the offer, if I get another taker you are more than welcome to come through and help/watch/chill

Dave, do you have the tools you need? specificaly a torque wrench. You also need to replace some of the nuts that you remove to replace the control arm as they are one time use only locking nuts.

I have a 200 piece Craftsman Mechanics Set with which I took my last car completly apart with, so I am sure I'l covered there...

No I do not have a torque wrench yet, but I will be buying one this weekend sometime.

DO you know specificaly which nuts, so I can go grab them at my local Ford/Lin Dealer?

You'll need the upper arm-to-knuckle nut, lower arm-to-knuckle nut and the tie-rod-to-knuckle nut.

You will also need to have a set of hex wrenches to hold the ball joint to remove and re-install these nuts and a set of box wrenches. If you have box wrenches with an offset it will help even more. Sorry I don't know the sizes.

You'll need something to support the knuckle after you disconnect the lower controll arm or you might damage the upper arm. A jackstand would work the best if you're up on a lift, it is easier to improvise if you're just jacking the car up on the ground, ie: a big block of wood or something.

There is also a tapered washer you need to hang on to to reinstall the ball joint, don't throw it away and keep it clean.

Sorry but whats a box wrench with an offset?

Thanks for the other info too...

Dave

It's one where the neck next to the end of the wrench looks like it's been bent. It's for getting into places where a normal wrench won't fit or has no room to turn the nut and a ratchet won't work because of the necessity to hold the bolt stationary with the hex wrench. Another tool that might work is a crow's foot wrench, which is basicaly the end of a wrench you can turn with a ratchet extension.

Have heated garage... no waiting. Western MA though. Working in the cold simply blows. Never done a knuckle so maybe we can coax Bill to come out here. I have next weekend off which would be good for me. No need to bring tools. I'm not on the forum much though, so email me if you guys are interested.

I don't have one of these either...

What day next weekend would be best for you?

Thanks

Dave

Fudge....

Never looked at the name on the wrench... I've been called worse :D

Saturday works best for me. Let me know who's comming so I can get some directions out.

Looks to be sunny and in the 40's too. Give me a chance to try out my other new toys...

Awesome, I will take the day off of work now...

I just need to pick up those wrenchs and the nuts....Do you have TQ wrenchs?

Sears has an offset set for 60 bucks for 10 wrenchs....so I'll get those...

I have a Right Tie Rod to do too, are those hard?

Yeah, I have a torque wrench so no worries there.

Never done a tire rod end. Inners suck, outers aren't too bad. Which one are you replacing?

Worst case solution... my neighbor is a mechanic :)

lol, inner...... hahaha, never the easy stuff....

I took the day off , so I am good there...

I live just above Northampton. Get directions here. Just sound off if you're going to stop by or not.

Updated forecast calls for possible percipitation left over from Thurs/Fri... who knows.

Bill, can I expect that you'll be lead chef for the day???

You just want another picture of me with food in my mouth:p I think I can make it, the wife and daughter ar doing girly things this weekend, and I havn't been by the old stomping grounds for a decade or so.

I've also got an LS service CD and an Alldata subscription we can consult if need be.

BTW are you surrounded by potatoes, tobacco, cucumbers or corn? I spent part of one summer in a cucumber field laying on the wing of part of the polish air force.

Dave and I have the Service CD as well and I have a PC in the garage too, so no problems there. Alldata might be handy.

Don't forget asparagus! Yep, I've been knee-deep in all that. The wing of the polish airforce is a perfect description for picking cukes... or kicking pukes as we used to call it. Ohhhh the horrid memories of 7a-5p work, 6 days a week for $2.15 an hour...

I have go the CD too..lol

I am gonna try and find out which size which size offset wrench is needed so I can just buy that one as opposed to the whole 10 piece set.

Also gotta get those locking nuts...Gonna PM 00-LS_Sport now for that..

Mike, what time were you thinking for Saturday?

Also, if ya'll wanna post in what you want to eat, it'll make my shopping easier for that day...

Thanks guys..

Dave
