Modified air intake - strange buzz / humming sound over 40?

Hey all -

I have replaced my intake with a cone filter and capped of the factory baffles after the MAF. I really love the great sound when I get on it, but there is this really annoying buzz or humming sound that is really noticable around 40 MPH plus.

I didn't drop three hundred on a chrome pipe from KN. As some others here have done, I cut off the factory box which left about 3/4 inch of lip to clamp on a cone filter, then as I said, I cut out and capped off the baffles on the other side of the MAF.

Any suggestions, or any have the same issue? Does the KN style "real" intake do this?

Also, anyone have the original airbox from a 2004 LS they want to sell? Just the part that holds the factory size filter.

Changing the factory tube out for the after market tube will help slightly as far as the tone you get, significantly with the small power gain the kit gives you over all. In the end its just the sound it makes. You can get the adapter plate and find tons of shops that will make you the same exact tube for dirt cheap or do it yourself like a few members here have done.

You really dont like it? I loved it! When I got my adapter and cone before the rest of the kit I thought it had that formula sound to it almost. It was really cool jumping on it while in between tall building and in underpasses. But in the end its not the sound that makes it faster.

So the hum-buzz sound is normal? If that's truely the case then it may not bother me so much. It's just that when I hear it I think something is wrong, so it freaks me out a bit.

I really, really like the improved sound when it get on it, that part I love.

I do disagree on the one thing though... better sound DOES make it go faster, the same way that washing and waxing it makes it go faster.

Yeah its normal, dont worry about it. Have fun with it in those underpasses man Im telling yah, its fun especially with the SST!
