More detailing

Chrome, I have small scratches in all of my chrome, specially in the front grille. I have used Mother's chrome polish but all I get is shinny scratched chrome.
Does anyone know how to make chrome smooth like glass again. I read somwhere that using scotch bright pads 0000 will work but I'm nervous about making it duller....
also what will work for headlights? the acrylic or plastic covers are also i a need of buffing yet again I don't want to make them dull which will defeat the purpose of headlights.... thanks in advance! My neighboors probably think I'm nuts, they see me every morning and afternoon working on the car, buffing, wiping, dusting, rubbing the 17" wheels by the way a tip I found out from a carpet dude, if you haven't tried Folex give it a try for carpets, the stuff is amazing it will not leave clean rings and it will clean just about anything! people think I just re-carpeted the car, and its a 2000.
I'll be pulling my R front headlight tomorrow and cleaning and baking it to reseal the darn condensation problem!

Ok, for your chrome all I can tell you other than using scotch pads is to try and find this stuff you might be able to find at a automotive paint supply store thats called "IOSSO MARINE POLISHING PASTE FOR FIBERGLASS AND METAL". Depending on how deep your scratches are it'll fill them up and hide them. Next, for your headlights get some clear plastic cleaner (I prefer Meguiars) apply with buffer using a foam pad and remove it with a 100% cotton bonnet using your buffer again.
