Received this in the mail today regarding the '03 coil issues:

Got the same letter in the mail yesterday. I have a slight hesitation when accelerating hard so I might take it in and see if it is related.
 
I recently had my ls looked at and was convinced the problem wasn't coils based on past experience but the Master Tech at Gator ford here in tampa proved me wrong. I even said to the SA that it is almost like a coil problem but really didn't reach that performance degradation that I had experienced in the past and stated that I thought it wasn't coils.

I posted on this about 2 weeks ago and it turned out to but the one thing I discounted it as being. The coil problem still in my opinion doesn't reach the benchmark set by past experiences.
 
I received mine in the mail two days ago. I had the problem fixed twice and it still seems to misfire or sputter under acceleration. Has anyone got this problem fixed completely?
 
That's what I got last Thursday and that is what I will bring with me when I get my car re-fixed.
 
Looks like this letter came just in time. It's always had a little bit of a rough idle, but I lived with it. Recently it's started to hesitate upon acceleration and even gave me a blinking engine light when I put my foot into it to pass someone. Dropping the car off tomorrow to have them take care of this. Will update on what happens.

Does anyone know if this pertains to the 00-02 models because I thought they were having the same problem, leaky valve cover gaskets and faulty coils, caused by leaky valve cover gaskets or maybe washing the engine getting them wet.:rolleyes:
 
If it pertained to the 00-02s, I would like to think you'd get the same sort of letter from Ford.

Little update:

They're replacing one complete bank (4 coils) and a valve cover gasket all thanks to this letter. Not a dime outta my pocket. :D

They also tried telling me that the car could use a throttle body and fuel injection cleaning at over 200 bucks. Silly dealerships. lol

I am going to assume that you made that comment sincerely and not trying to be a smart azz.

The reason I was wondering is because I am the second owner of my ls and it is was registered in another state previously on top of that, so there is a chance that maybe I wouldn't get the letter if there was one, catch my drift.:rolleyes:

I figued this to be true but called customer care anyway. I gave them my VIN and they said there isnt a customer care program assioated with my car. I assume she was talking about all 2002 LSes. She suggested bringing it to a dealer if i was having the same problems and speaking with them about it, implying that they might work with me, but i think the dealer would tell me i have the problem and charge me for the diag.

I'm the second owner of my car, as well. And we all know what 'they' say about assuming. :D


Anyways, got the car back. They replaced coil #3, the spark plug for that cylinder and the RH valve cover gasket. Car idles great now and has much more power.

For anyone local - I brought it to Dana Lincoln Mercury and couldn't be happier. Especially the "free" part.

Does this apply to 04 models? I just got an 04 from out of state and am wondering if I should take it to the dealer.

i received this letter on early july of this year i have an early 2003 V8. i had the gasket done twice (@ $500+ each time) and the coils done about three times (@$250+ each time) aside from other work but that has nothing to do with this letter.
on Aug. 30 i gathered up my reciepts and took them to the service manager at ford. i got my first refund yesterday ($258.98) and i hope to get the other ones soon. they take from 4-6 weeks. i also feel a hesitation when i accelerate now and in reading the letter thats one of the sypthoms for a problem. ford said i could take it to service free but if there is no problem or its another problem not described in the letter i would have to pay ($98)

does not apply to 04's but unless you have over 50k miles you are still under warranty. So if you are certain you have a problem do not wait to take it in to a Lincoln dealer.
 
I just called ford to complain that this does not cover the 2000 LS. what is described in 07M07 is exactly what happened to my car. The dealer said there was oil on coil #5, leaking from the valve cover gasket. Had to replace 5 boots, 6 spark plug, 2 gaskets, cost $1467.00. Sylvia (ford rep) said she documented the complaint, and maybe someone would call me. We need more people to call and complain in order to get a recall/refund going.
 
I like your car. When I purchased mine, I had a choice of a white 02 V8 with 68000 miles on it, a 03 V8 with 59000 miles and then a 00 v6 with 54000. I chose the one with the least miles. I should of gone with the 03 V8.
 
It would be nice is someone had the mechanical layout for the engine to see if there was a design change in the model years and if there wasn't why did ford pick '03 for the warrenty? Not the other years.
 
i called a dealer near me and they said that my warranty was void because my car is a salvage vehicle , but i dont see anywhere in the letter anything about salvage vehicles.
 
Being a salvage, flood, or totalled I think automatically voids any manufacturer's warranty.
