More info about Program 07M07 & 07N09

i called a dealer near me and they said that my warranty was void because my car is a salvage vehicle , but i dont see anywhere in the letter anything about salvage vehicles.

They dont include info like that in the letter, the way I believe all manufacturers are is only if it is a safety related recall it gets done on Salvaged vehicles, other ones dont qualify on a salvaged title vehicle

Hi. do you know if that problem is only on the 2003 ls i have a 2005 and i was wondering if i should be worried?

Yes common problem for all LSs. I have had 5 coils replaced before 15k miles and the car is going back to the dealer Wed for what I think is going to turn out to be more coil issues.

dont need to be, if you replace the old vcg with the new black one, and torque it right, you wont have the same issues as the 03 +

That's not really true. The coils fail for reasons other than oil contamination. The 00 to 02 should have been covered, but they aren't. The V6's should have been covered, but they aren't. The 06's should be covered, but so far they aren't either.

i have an 03 too but i bought mine from a lot in the state next to me and i havent recieved anything in the mail, and mine need to be changed, its not bad enough to throw a code, but I can def tell. how should i go about seeing if im covered.

You don't need to (and probably won't) receive anything in the mail.

You are covered if your 03 is a V8, and it has less than 100K miles on the odometer.

alot of us, myself included have had them fail (4 times) with no oil in the covers...

really 4 times? is that 4 separate times, or 4 different coils? when i got my 2000 v8 at 56,000
i had the oil leak problem, changed all 8 coils/plugs/ and new gasket, im at 90000 now and no misses, i pray it doesnt happen again

I posted not too long ago about my coils. The dealer I went to tied to tell me that I would have to pay outta pocket. After a little arguing they apparently called Ford and admitted they were idiots and that Ford would pay for it. Anyone know if people who bought their cars used will also get this letter? I emailed Ford and I'll let you all know as soon as I get a response...

Btw, thanks for the info NYC - much appreciated. Glad you've decided to stick around even though you've dumped the LS.

All four of my failed coils (two each time) were with no oil or water. The Ford letter itself says this...
"Some of the vehicles may experience an engine misfire condition predominantly due to internal
breakdown in the coil and lack of adhesion between the epoxy and the coil housing material.
These issues may cause the coil to operate at an insufficient voltage level, resulting in ignition coil
misfires.
"

4 seperate times....4 different coils. I got my ls with 64k on the clock, it now has 88 and is missing yet again....

i agree with you, i just havent had a burt out coil since the VCG

Okay, I don't think we're getting through to you. Coils don't only fail if they get oil on them. I even suspect that many of the oil soaked coils that failed didn't fail because of the oil, but because of the internal defect that is killing coils. Ford admits it now. None of my coils that failed ever had oil or water on them. (No oil or water on the ones that didn't fail either.) People here seem to be getting a variable amount of miles out of their coils. I had some fail at 60K miles, and some are still fine at 120K miles. Your dry coils may go another 200K miles, or they may fail tomorrow. You need to get out of this notion that coils only fail because they get oil on them. If our gaskets aren't leaking any oil, then there is no reason to change them.

I lost 6 coils on my 03 between 90,000 and 100,000 miles. Thanks to this web site, I knew it was an issue and there was a warranty. I waited until I had 4 bad coils (was replacing them out my own pocket), then took them all in for warranty. Bought 4 more, now all the coils now have less than 10,000 miles, so hope they'll last a while. BTW the last 2 Ford coils I bought said "Made in China" on them.

ok thats good to know, and in order to be covered for this, do I have to go to an actual ford dealer as well

my coils i suspect misfiring right now, and its pretty annoying, however my check engine light hasn't come on yet, do i have to wait for the light to appear?

You do have to go to a Ford or Lincoln dealer. It seems like more Lincoln dealers know about the program than Ford dealers.

The check engine light does not have to be on.

You will be charged for diagnosis if any faults other than coil failure are determined to be involved in the engine misfires, but either way failed coils will be replaced at no charge.

I just brought my 2005 LS V8 with 85k miles to my local Ford dealer after my engine light came on because of a cylinder misfiring. I mentioned the 10 year/100k mile warranty on the ignition coil assemblies. They knew about the warranty & replaced 2 coils & 2 sparkplugs (6th & 7th cylinder). I didn't have to pay for anything & now my car sounds & feels great when I accelerate! :D
