I'm about 100% sure the engine is seized just want some other opinions before I start the motor swap from my 97 Base parts car.

-Engine doesn't crank...imagine that, starter engages, just doesn't turn (Has a new Interstate Black top Battery)

-Tried turning the engine with my breaker bar, wouldn't budge, but started to tighten the crank pulley bolt beyond what it needed.

-Removed all the spark plugs and the serpentine belt, tried to turn with my breaker bar again. No turn, no budge.

-Poured WD40 and some synthetic parts lubricant from an oil field buddy down the cylinders and let it sit a couple days. Still no rotation, either direction.

-Next step is to pull the heads and check them out along with the cylinders.

*Let me know if you guys have any thoughts or If I'm complete idiot and missing something.

Thanks!

I wouldn't waste my time with any of that... especially pulling the head.... I would just yank it out... dissect later.

Makes sense, a lot easier when its out of the car. Thanks for the advice

Small chance that the converter and transfer. Locked up

Possibility, I'll check that out before I start the R/R.

Thanks again for the input

It's seized. If ti won't go either direction, it isn't a valve. Find another engine and swap. Then strip the block, sell it to someone that wants a Teskid.

Sounds like the plan, my 97 Base has a super clean lower mileage engine in it that runs great. Guess I know what my weekend plans are :)

That's the same indications my 97 engine was giving me after I sucked up a bunch of water....

Seized the engine. The guy that bought the engine took it apart and one of the piston rods was obliterated. Apparently, it had trashed the block as well...

Looking forward to tearing it apart once it's out....

Did you look in the cylinders before you sprayed wd40 in em?

Yes sir, most were bone dry. A couple had fuel in them.

Put some WD40 in the cylinders, then my buddy game me this liquid they use in the oil field that frees up rusted valves and machinery in a matter of minutes.

You mentioned it takes less than 100ft lbs to turn the motor, I weigh around 250 and I put everything I had into it. Not a budge.....

100lbsft to rotate a engine assembly? Maybe with the plugs in, making compression... Otherwise you should be able to rotate it by hand...

That's what Sap mentioned, he said close to 75lbs with the plugs in and making compression.

Was this known when you bought the car?

Could it be possible that the engine was destroyed by sodium silicate as part of the cash for clunkers program.

Nah. If that was the case there wouldn't have been any oil in the engine when he got it.

it could be. but i thought they crushed all the "clunkers."
The cars had their engine permanently destroyed to make sure they couldn't be resold and then they had to be crushed for scrap metal in 90 days or something like that.

gayest thing i've ever heard. they scrapped i don't even know how many perfectly good cars.

Yeah it was really bad. Lots of people turned in perfectly good cars with only 100k or so on them and the dealerships actually had lots of people wanting to buy the clunkers for cheap, but they were required to destroy them. They couldn't even let people pull the good engines or anything. Just look up "cash for clunkers" on youtube for some videos of the carnage.

Supposedly the Prius hybrid(pukes repeatedly) was one of the top new cars bought with their government check. Also Obama wants all kinds of new fuel economy ratings that would basically force the automakers to produce nothing but overpriced crappy little cars by 2025 or w/e. Obama FTL.

that car will never... be more green after all the shipping for the batteries and mines in canada for the raw materials
