had an unusual experience the other day, where my car just died at a traffic lite..its never done this in the 12 yrs ive owned it..up till now its been the most relible car ever..car was idling perfect at a traffic lite n just died.it would crank but seemed not to be firing.ended up having it towed home.things i know for sure are that the fuel pump is pumping, theres plenty of fuel pressure at the fuel rail, and theres no current codes showing..after having the car towed,i visually checked all the usual stuff. cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter, fuses etc..nothing unusual seen..i then poured some gas down the throttle body and the car immediately started up..its been starting and running absolutely fine since then..problem is i dont trust going anyplace far now..my guess is this problem has something to do with whatever fires the fuel injectors?can anyone give me any ideas here?

Pull the codes by pressing the 'OFF' and 'WARMER' buttons at the same time and hold for about 4 sec. Chances are it stalled because there's a defective crankshaft position sensor.

mac, theres only 2 current codes showing up.after researching them, one has to do with AIR ,it has been on for approximately 5 years after my catalytic converter was gutted out..the 2nd code has to do with the twilight sentenel system(lighting).thats the only 2 current codes showing up.as far as the crankshaft position sensor goes,it was changed last fall after a code for it had come up.i had a no start at all situation last fall.turned out the original sensor had actually crumbled into pieces.since replacing sensor last fall, the car started right up..been running great till my recent experience.. that code has never come back..

Well, the first thing I would do is check to make sure the battery connections are good. You may want to clean the positive side and check the negative terminal and make sure it's properly grounded. Since you don't have any codes indicating a defective crankshaft sensor, I would check the battery.

I had the same problem with my 99 eldo, turned out a relay underneath the bat. had come loose.

ok, ive checked over my battery and connections and everything appears to be fine..the car is still starting and running..i just dont know when it will crap out again??any other ideas??

Possibly the PCM or even a coil pack. If it's the PCM you should see codes though. The only other thing may be the MAF sensor. I'm just thinking out load here (without the benefit of codes) so don't go spending money replacing these things thinking I named all the possibilities. It could also be the Fuel pressure regulator as well.

mac, you can rule out the coil..its been changed with a brand new one last year..plus when i had the recent no start problem, i swapped the coil with a known good coil..there was no change..how does one go about checking the fuel pressure regulator to see that its functioning correctly?are regulators known to have intermittent problems?can you tell me what components actually tells the fuel injectors when to spray fuel? i honestly feel when my car died last, that the injectors totally stopped working..also i know that when the car wouldnt start,a test guage showed slightly over 50lbs of fuel pressure at the fuel rail when tested..yet i dumped raw gas down the throttle body and the car started right up and ran fine..this is frustrating with no current codes showing up..how can i check the MAF sensor and PCM?
