My 93 Mark Viii vs 08 c300 sport

The new C300 is actually a bad ass car. My friend has his lowered, tinted out, debadged, straight pipes (no mufflers) and a sound system. He let me drive it, It's hard to explain how well it handles compared to a Mark VIII, you feel like you have complete and instant control of the vehicle and it's got very good throttle response with the 7 speed transmission. Plus the girls love it and the interior is excellent, like a space ship. It also sounds really good with the mufflers off. At idle it sounds stock but when you get on it, it sounds like an na 911 Porsche...

200k damn it's a mean car but i would rather be given a nice gen2 mark and 190k and mod the hell out of it!

frog, in the one I rode in it was just a blatant cut in power....it wasnt like a cuting in and out, it was more like a hard acceloration, heres 155 and foot to the floor was acting like cruise control....different from any other governer I have felt...very smooth engaging unless you are accelorating at max.

As far as limiters there are a few companies that offer a complete removal, along with the ability to change the wastegate pressure. AMG, rentech etc are more into status than being actual gearheads. I believe that the cars will run out somewhere close to the 200 mark when totally unrestricted...between the gearing (v12 cars only get a 5speed) and areodynamic drag it takes a toll....but still not bad for a damn near stock street driven luxury car.

Timothy... I've DRIVEN the CL65 AMG. I have taken it to 155MPH, and I can tell you, it doesn't "tell" you it's there. It just keeps 155 and calls it good.

As far as aftermarket companies for the AMG mercs? Well... Renntech is good, but as I said before, they limit the Speed on the cars they software update to 185? 186?.

With a proper tune, the CL is good for 218MPH, (it is indeed engineered by AMG to do 220) as it does indeed get almost 100HP and 130 Ft lbs of torque (can't quite remember the exact numbers) from any of the power companies. The 6L V12 is good for more than 1000Ft lbs of torque, but AMG derates it to 738 so the tranny can live behind that motor and be reliable.

I believe both carlsson and mec design offer full speed limit removal.

As far as how it hits the limiter, I dont want to start a flame war; I am just giving my experience based on an s65....it pulled hard to 155, then settled in; we may both be saying the same thing...it was a very noticable statment of "I have a lot more, but this is good for you", not abrupt or harsh or jerky, just a noticable statment of we have arrived a Vmax.

And FYI frog....I love that sig (both the gun and the fact that a cop is too heavy) :)

Ok. Your explanation makes sense, and I believe we are on the same page. I thought you were saying it was "jerking" when it got the to speed limiter. Indeed, the car just settles at 155. You know there's more, but just our of reach because of a stinking computer bit.

And FYI frog....I love that sig (both the gun and the fact that a cop is too heavy) :)

Thanks. ;)

yeah...no jerk whatsoever.....just a smoth cutoff at 155....micheal (my client the driver) claimed he had it hammered, and it was smooth like cruise control....the jerking I was trying to describe was what it felt like on arrival...it was like massive thrust, and then you are just cruising....totally smooth, but very much an "oh yeah, I took away the extra power to get you past this point"

that is a freaking awesome powerplant
