Ok guys, I did the following today to the blue 93 to see where I stand as far as repairs prior to selling it:

  • Took off the spark plugs & wires
  • Dropped some tranny fluid down the holes
  • Cranked the car (no plugs) so that the tranny fluid can lubricate the cylinders
  • Changed the oil
  • Added water separator to the fuel tank
  • Added 108 octane booster to the 4-5 gallons of old fuel it has
  • Added 5 gallons of fresh 93 Octane fuel
  • Added starter fluid to each cylinder
  • Placed plugs & wires back on
  • Installed fully charged battery
  • Installed recently clean air-filter & box
  • then cranked the car.....

The car started rough for maybe 3-4 seconds while it burned up the starter fluid then died. Afterward it cranks nice & fast due to the recently charged battery but it doesn't start. The fact that it started tells me that there's spark! Could it be the fuel pump? I checked that little red button in the trunk for the pump & it's pushed in as it should be!

Any suggestions? What do you guys think?

yep. pumps tend to lock up after sitting for a long time. especially if any water has gotten into the tank.

cycle the key and listen for the pump, check fuel pressure.

+1, easy enough to find out alex, have someone turn the key to the acc position while you have your ear in the fuel door, open the fuel door, stick your head to the side of the car and just have someone turn the key on, or, jack it up and go under it to the tank and have someone turn the key, if you cant hear the pump, its probably dead, i have a whole pump and sending unit from my rosemist 94 i will give you, pay the shipping and its yours.

You know what tics me off? I'm so close to you yet my life is so God d@mn twisted I cannot visit you no matter what! Even my wife was telling me how I've had the worst luck getting to you! This weekend I will be witnessing the preping of the 97 since it's going to be painted. maybe the following weekend I can go up. Maybe Elliott & Rich want to come with me!:) Otherwise shipping will be fine. However............

Bang on the tank with a hammer and cycle the key until it works... and I'm serious.
I'm going to bang on the tank a few times to see if I can get it to come loose! Rich had to do this to one of his Mark 8's & it worked! At the end of the day, this car will be for sale so I don't want to get too complicated with it! If it doesn't work then bring on the pump!

Alright, I banged the crap outta the tank this afternoon & NOTHING! Won't start. Some more dry wasp hives came crumbling down from what looks to be above the gas tank. Anyhow, car won't start so this really get's things complicated. I'm getting the 97 painted this upcoming week. It's getting prepared on Friday I could use the extra cash I can collect by selling this car! Damn!

Try the fuel pressure valve on the rail after cranking the engine?

If the pump is providing pressure, depressing the valve on the fuel rail should show if it is getting fuel pressure to the rail or not.

I had a similar crank but no-start with my '96 and ended up being a bad cam position sensor.

I remembered this afternoon that the former owner's brother was trying to install an aftermarket alarm on the car 4 years ago & after it was installed the car didn't start anymore. No attempt was ever made to fix the car. I don't even know where to begin.

Find the aftermarket alarm under the dash and take it out. Put all wires back to stock and throw that thing in the trash. I have had to do this many times sometimes on site when peeps only fob died or lost. You really need to get a fuel pressure gauge in your tool box. These are cheap at any parts store. Something you just should have.

Yep, I really need to do both of the above mentioned!
