SHEOOOOOOOOT
the small rod on the switch does NOT break off, its the linkage inside of the column from the ign cly to the ign switch that breaks thats what the little gear moves that is out in your pic

Yeah, that gear came out...is it supposed to?chickenviii said:the small rod on the switch does NOT break off, its the linkage inside of the column from the ign cly to the ign switch that breaks thats what the little gear moves that is out in your pic
your thumb is prob correct, the gear usually stayes in & how did it come out was the ring holding the gear in or was it just laying in the hole? the actual lock cylis the inner tumbler (where the key goes) and the outer case (the sleeve) should of came out in one piece and the gear and the ring and the small green thingie should of stayed in the hole.....edit just re read it after you turned the car off did you reassemble it and start it normally? if thats the case the dreaded linkage in the column IS broke, cuz it can push the ign switch forward but cant pull it back cuz as you are learning that the start posion is spring loaded at the switch and then with the link broke you just pull the part attached to the key away from the other part attached to the switchmy95mark8 said:Yeah, that gear came out...is it supposed to?
I have been driving the car, and the switch seems HARD to move. I have to apply force with my thumb, BUT before I took it apart I could still turn it to start and get the starter to crank. I could also do that with a screwdriver when the gear was still in there.
