Hello everybody! I was happy when i bought my black on black 97 lsc but after having some overheating and smelling the coolant which had a strong fuel smell i wanted to cry. After testing confirmed that exhaust was getting into coolant now i want to swap the motor. When i call salvage yards they always ask year AND production date and would say its a "97 only". I cant seem to find any running 97 with my production date but surely i could swap another year when mustang owners swap for mark engines. If anybody know the differances between years or which engines could go into the 97 I would appreciate your input. Thanks for the help

once you pull all the little bits, intake, etc, and get far enough into it, the 4.6 is basically the same from any mark viii.
97/98 will be quite straightforward. 93-96 will require more extensive swapping of wiring, sensors, the intake, etc. but it can be done.
