So if you followed my previous post....I was originally going to get a 2000-01 LS but was told by many on here to stay away and to get a second gen. So I gave three cars and there was one that caught my eye for $5995....it only had two owners....one if you're not counting that it was a rental car for it's first year. But the issue was that it shifted hard.....was able to use this as a negotiating tool like some of you had PM to do and I got it for $4200. They gave me $2k for my Mark VIII and although I wanted a little more for it I had to realize I still had several things to fix on it....one being the front end needing rebuilt. But here she is... Ash tray won't stay in, right? There are a couple of different ways that it can fail and cause this. If you are lucky, it is the fixable way (otherwise a new assembly is needed). There is a thread somewhere on here on fixing that.

Yea, how'd you know? Lol No i kept trying all night but no luck. The door does close down but ashtray stays out.

That's just like mine............glad you got a BIG price cut there. Is that IVORY PARCHMENT color? That is the best for hiding road dirt that I've seen. When you decide to wash it, it's REALLY dirty.LOL! Congrats!

P.S.: If you put a set of 16" wheels on it,it'll improve the ride 50%. don-ohio :)^)

That's it, lets start recommending for people to put 16" wheels on and it will improve the ride quality by 50%

Splendid !!! Maybe leave the lug nuts loose also, won't blow out a tire or something Fn silly like that.

Looks good LQ,

them seats ...

Finally found some time to clean the 04 LSE seats, I knew they were dirty, just didn't know they were this dirty.

Little of the good stuff to help seal it all in.

Cleaned the **** out of my seats. This is just step one. I am going to steam them tomorrow and use a proper leather cleaner then condition them with a quality conditioner. .This is the most satisfying job ive done on the LS and I just did my plugs and coils lol.Before/After pics below

Sorry about the time stamp its really my pictures lol. I havent set the date on my Canon SX610hs

More of BR's `eggs erroneous' wisdom..LOL!

I HAVE done this and it improves the ride 50%. The tires ruin the ride. Maybe someone knows of better riding 17" tires, but I just switched the 16" off my 04 to my 03 that had a rougher ride with the 17". And WHAT'S wrong with the looks of the 16" wheels. They look just as nice as the 17". don-ohio :)^)

Also I want to buy some Lincoln Chrome 17s or either some aftermarket 18s.....but not sure yet what to get and that will be a spring project. Right now I have to get the windows tinted 35% (not to dark) all the way around and want to get winter tires and get the transmission looked at?

Do anyone know if I can find or order the original window sticker??? There used to be a website that you could go to a year ago or so and you could print it off there...all you needed was the VIN number. The car came with no owners manuals which im surprised considering how well maintained she appears to be and based on Car Fax showing all work/maintenance done at Joe Rizza Ford in North Riverside, Il. I went ahead and ordered them off Ebay.

PDFs of the owner's manuals are available for free here and elsewhere.

Yea I know...im just anal like that lol If I can, I like to have copies of the owners manuals, and window stickers if they can be ordered.

Need to de-pressurize the tires also. They'll last much, much longer too!!

Just when you thought he couldn't possibly get any dumber, he swallows another stupid pill and moves onto the next level.

Yes LQ, those seats will come cleaner. Not sure if you looked at the attachment pic links I posted.

Oh wow, thanks for the suggestions I will do it sometime next weekend as I have a very busy weekend so won't be able to tackle it but I will get her washed and have the spray waxed applied since I have a wedding im in on Saturday and Funeral on Friday. I also need to get the transmission looked at sometime soon.

Gratz Bro! Ya you did good, especially if you were dealing with a trade in with the mix. As far as the tranny goes, PLENTY of reading here about whats up. The hardest issue is finding a reliable shop. As I have learned stay away from AAMCO and the like, all they want to do is pretend the whole thing is shot, and then either swap one out, or say they did to get max profit. I found a solid guy who took over the business from dad. Tests can be done at the PCM to see if its the solenoid, but that needs a good shop as well. One of my early threads here has a video from a Cali specialist for example. As far as the PCM - DO NOT go with ebay/pre made rebuild. Waste of money and having to deal with programming the new. SIA Electronics is what the guys here use, its listed in a couple threads or can be googled. You just have to pull and ship.

Now I tend to lean to the internals on the tranny. Your car being a rental makes me think there probably was some hard drivers in that time frame. Also, they pretend that this is a 'sealed' tranny and needs no maintenance, but it does. What that means to me is most owners never had a service done on it. You should at least do a full flush and swap on all fluids in the car, including the Tranny. This means the mech would drop the pan, and that can give you better clues whats up. At that point do like I did and replace both the shift kit AND the solenoid if needed. My mech didnt think the solenoid was bad even at the point of doing the work, but he was in there so why waste another labor fee when it would fail. It turned out my control springs 'crumbled in his fingers' even though they looked good during inspection.

Enjoy the new ride!

So does anyone here know of or can recommend/vouch for a reputable transmission shop or specialist in the greater Chicagoland area?

Way I found mine is google search like :

http://www.primebuyersreport.org/il/cook-county-il-transmission-repair.html

or the self site:

http://tramcartransmission.com/

Then research on the shop by yelp reviews etc. Of course, thats all epinions, but usually you can see a pattern. The final test will be foot work and visiting the shop and talking to the owner. Follow the gut. I actually decided my guy would be good, because he talked about 'standard' issues with this series tran (not the lincoln) and stated 'I wont know until I drop the pan.' That phrase btw is what is needed to do the fluid exchange, and inspection of the contents in the pan.

Having said that though, like anyone else if you are near Burbank CA let me know!

Whatever cleaner you plan on using, just be cautious, it's colored leather after all. I wouldn't spray directly at the seats with any harsh cleaning products, instead I would recommend to apply to the Mr Clean pads instead. Work one panel at a time and rinse of with a damp cloth you would rinse in a bucket of clean mild warm water. Avoid rubbing too hard in one given place, use even strokes on each panel. Where ever you have cracks in the leather go easy. Some of those outdoor patio furniture cleaning products are strong and will ruin leather in a hurry if you don't watch it. Avoid spraying any harsh cleaners directly onto the leather, it will spot clean and you won't get it out evenly. Work quickly and rinse. It's a chemical on leather after all so watch it.

... it makes the car look more like an escort.

... look very good, and nothing like Escort wheels.

Told ya he got his brain at the now and then thrift store !!!

Fries with that? :)^)

Fn FORD engineers got it all wrong again, beefed up sway bars and 17" Sport wheels offered, degrades the ride quality by a whole 50% according to Mr. WrongDon

Stay tuned, he'll dig that dummy hole deeper ... just watch!
