Hi eveyone! I just picked up a 2002 Lincoln LSE for $2950.00 with 155k but an engine swap 8k miles ago with a 62k engine. The guy I bought it from works at a local salvage yard and they also sell used cars. When he saw the LSE come into the lot he called me and said $2950 right now so I bought it sight unseen. He said all he knew is the car was overheating. I've been thru a few spells of that already with my 00 LS so I'm confident I can fix the cooling system fairly easily. He even towed the car to my house 25 miles away for free!!
I got the car home around 1pm and changed the degas bottle and started the valve cover gaskets. When I removed the valve covers I was happy to see the all metal timing chain tensioners and what appeared to be new primary guide rails so I'm going to assume the timing chain area was overhauled. I'm thinking the metal secondary tensioners werent available by 02?? The valve cover gaskets were the new black ones but they were pinched on the passenger side by the exhaust manifold and 4 out of the 8 plug hole o-rings were installed upside down I think because they were leaking and they fell out when I pulled the cover off. So 4 oil flooded cop boots, 7 motorcraft fine point plugs, one autolite plug, 7 factory cops's, and one replaced cop come out and straight to the trash. Oh and I somehow broke the dipstick handle off with the rest of the dipstick stuck in the hole. That was fun.... I am going to order some Accel cop's and E3 plugs tomorrow and a few other goodies.
The hydraulic fan reservoir has some strawberry milk lookin stuff in it. It's a matter of time before that shoots craps so it will be coming out soon and an electric fan replacing that. It has some minor dings here and there, the front lower bumper is cracked, one fog light lense is broken but it still works, the arm rest leather is cracking, locking lugs with no key....grrrrr, and it needs a few suspension parts but I think I came across a pretty good deal.
