Long while back my trans quit shifting properly. Took it to a recommended trans shop and they said 50/50 shot at the solenoid pack. Being a moron I took it and lost. What an idiot.
Doing some serious web research showed my symptoms (won't upshift without an error, manually shifts OK but missing 1st and 5th) were clearly servo related and not solenoid related. Lesson learned.
Seemed like it might be a servo bore wear issue. Bought the o-ringed servos and special pliers from this guy
http://www.fordservoboretransmissionfixsolution.com/
and liked the idea of what they were selling and how it addressed the issue.
Needed to replace my cats anyway so I dropped the H pipe, driveshaft and took a shot at angling the tranny down to access the servos without dropping the tranny. Had to drop the rack and pinion a bit but it worked.
Found this.
Wow, well maybe it's not the bore eh?
Replaced the fluid and filter and crossed my fingers.
So far so good, now if I could just figure out that damn startup rattle.
