Alright people we got a coolant leak! Everybody out of engineering, abandon ship!

But seriously, I noticed it dripping rather aggressively. Leaking from the joint mid way from this 'S' shaped rubber hose. What is the name of the hose, and is it expensive? Is ebay an alternative?

Upper radiator hose. Inexpensive through RockAuto (if you can wait), about $100 at the dealer.

That is the beginning of a very expensive fix. That hose leaking is the only symptom my 2003 LSV8 had. On the advice of this board I did a full cooling system revamp. The degas bottle had more cracks than a plumber's convention. It also had a broken thermostat housing. It cost some 600 bucks for the parts at Ford Giant, some other place recommended by this board and my local Jag dealer.

Umm.. wait full revamp? You dont just replace stuff as they break? o_O

Well, you can, if you enjoy bleeding cooling systems and don't mind replacing the coolant once every 3 months or so as the next part breaks. Personally though, when I have a problem with one of my cars I prefer to make sure I don't have a similar problem for years after I make repairs. Besides, the cooling system on these ... things, to put it nicely in deference to the folks here who like the LS is known to have all the plastic parts crap out at about the same time.

I did. That hose was the only cooling system repair I made on my '06 before I sold it w/138K miles a few months ago. That was 4 years ago......

Pretty much. My upper hose had a slow leak for about three months. By the time I ordered a new one, a thorough inspection of the other components found two cracks in the T-stat housing & a crack in the large elbow connected to the housing. I ended up just doing everything at once, including new intake manifold gaskets - only my Degas bottle was in good shape.

Be aware that there is a non-zero chance that the coolant crossover tube will crack when you pull the old hose off or put the new hose on. If it does, the odds are pretty fair that the other two plastic parts that connect to the crossover will crack when you replace it...

Also, not to be a downer, but the o-ring seal on your bank 1 VCT is clearly leaking in that picture. Odds are good that the bank 2 one is too. (It's not a big thing. Some of mine are too. I'm waiting till VCGs are needed before I do anything about it.)

Do the whole cooling system they will start failing I did a write up on what you need for the gen2 and you will be good for another 100k

I really need to do mine too, but am having a hard time justifying the work when the VCG were replaced just over 50k ago and are not having any other problems...
