I have an 04 LS V8 Sport with a premium sound system (in-dash 6 CD). Can I buy a nav. system from a wreck and install it in place of my existing unit? Is the harness ready to accept it? I doubt they wire every car different since most manufacturer's are standardizing at the factory.

Also, has anyone had their message center buttons detach from the silver shroud in the dashboard? I am so pissed cause I couldn't use the buttons til I glued the button assembly back to it the dashboard shroud, but I don't think it will hold up long. I need to find a used one or order an OEM replacement. Any ideas??

Don't know about the navigation, but I'm also interested.

I asked my local Lincoln parts guy about any issues found on LS's before we bought ours used. He did mention the message center buttons as an issue along with valve cover seals. If the parts guy knows about it and the dealer stocks the parts, it is a common issue. Don't know what the parts cost. Post the part number and cost when you find out.

Totally different wiring. Better off with an aftermarket unit.

Thanks for the replies guys. Man that sucks, I would have thought Ford/Lincoln would wire the cars the same at birth and plug in whatever options the VIN number calls for. I know the LS's with NAV have a CD player in the trunk that you have to load the GPS CD into, but I figured the wire would be buried in the trunk somewhere behind a panel.

Oh well, it's off to Garmin I go.... Unless someone recommends a better aftermarket brand.

Actually the main wire harness that goes thru the body of the car has the right wires in it. But you have to replace all the sub-harness that connect to it, (dash, rear amp harness, radio harness, and the power harness from the main battery fuse box) I had looked into it about year ago and found that it was to envolved and costly. Plus all the componets (radio, gps antenna, rear cd player for the nav CD) that make it all work. Stuck with my 6cd indash unit and added the pie adapter for my ipod instead.

Can we discuss the second part of my tread??

Garmin all the way. Make sure you get one with a built in FM transmitter and bluetooth. That way everything is broadcast over the speakers in your car. Mp3's, directions, and phone calls. Opt for one with a traffic receiver, not the MSN edition. I have the nuvi 680 and the only thing I don't like is the MSN direct. I mounted mine next to the mirror and hard wired it into the cigar lighter so theirs no wires, and no one can see it.
