hey guys im new to the navigation system deal.... i have a really dumb question... after purchasing the navigation system receiver.. is there some kind of a montly fee for the GPS signal? or does the receiver just detect the signal and track your position for free?
im thinking of getting an after market receiver for my 2000 LS and well do you guys have any recommendations im looking into the Pioneer AVIC-N3
any other ones that are good? i would really appreciate all your help as always and thank you in advance!!:)

No monthly fee.
I have the kenwood DDX-7017 head unit. The navigation is a seperate unit the KNA-DV4100. I have found it very easy to operate. The picture quality is one of the best i have seen also.
The only thing missing is a screensaver or somekind of motion to look at when your listening to the radio tuner. But lately I have just made music videos, for all my music. (I have my dvd part by-passed so i can watch as I drive).
Its also nice to toggle back and forth from dvd to navigation without having to stop the dvd. Because the nav is a seperate unit.
Looks factory too. Nice and flush.

nice unit... hey but what about the kit???
where did u get the kit to install it??.. and how much extra is the separate navigation add on??? i would reallly appreciate all the help

I had a local stereo shop do the install. The Navigation fits in the 6-disc spot (glove box). My girfriend bought me the headunit. But the Navigation systm alone was $1000

I have the Kenwood DDX6019 and love it 7" screen and the EQ is amazing
highly recommended if you want sound quality out of your sterio very nice head unit. You can add the navi to it for about $800 but if you look hard enough you can find both for under $1300

I just installed an AVIC-Z1 in my wife's Aviator:

It's hard drive driven, XM NavTraffic capable, Bluetooth, 5.1 Surround capable, interlocks easily bypassed, etc etc. They aren't cheap with the best price I've seen around $1500. But for what you get, it can't be beat. And it will fit the LS if you build yourself a faceplate...which you would have to do with any double din unit. I highly recommend this unit over any of the other's I've seen. Voice guidance, voice commands, both wired and IR remote capable...it would take me several pages to cover all the features.

LOL

There certianly is a monthly fee for the GPS signal.

For those of US that have a job ... It's called INCOME TAX.

The GPS has been paid for and maintained by American Tax Dollars.
